Hurricane Harvey was a big headline in 2017. A year later, many continue to recover from the storm. They’re also remembering the government’s response, as they head to the polls to cast their ballots in the upcoming midterm election.“Yes, for the last three and a half years, walking into this house has been very depressing, I would say,” says Houston homeowner Greg Roberts.It hasn’t been easy for the Roberts, who live in Houston’s Meyerland neighborhood."We got flooded out in 2015, 2016, and 2017 with Harvey, as well," Roberts says.The Roberts haven’t lived in this home since it was first flooded in 2015. Harvey brought in more flood damage.Now, the couple is raising their home's foundation higher than the levels Harvey's waters reached. "If you look up and down the streets of this neighborhood and many others, you will find many others that have been lifted or completely demolished," Roberts says.Many residents in the area are preparing for the next storm. But the past isn't lost in this election cycle.  "The topic of flooding and recovery from flooding has not left the public conscious for at least the last three years, probably before, especially the past three and a half years,” Roberts says.Roberts says it’s a major talking point for politicians in Texas.After so much flooding, the Roberts say they've already answered another tough question about their future. Why do they stay?“That's a good question,” Roberts says. “It's a person by person decision; there's no question about that. We love for years. We fought for years to get into this neighborhood. So, we just really love the areas."There were a lot of things we really love about this neighborhood, so we stuck it out. IMPERIAL BEACH (KGTV) -- Some South Bay parents said they are frustrated with their internet company after they learned of planned outages during the middle of the school day.Michael Crawford’s daughter is in her first year of high school and like many local students, is starting the year online. Crawford said the transition to virtual learning has not been easy for her. When he learned of the Cox communications outage planned for Tuesday, Crawford said it only added insult to injury. According to a notice he received on his door Friday, the planned service outage was slated to begin at 5 a.m. and last until three in the afternoon.He called Cox Communications, but did not get any answers. “I spent an hour on the phone with them. The lady seemed very sympathetic at first and then she [came] back on the phone and said there’s nothing we could do about it,” Crawford said.His neighbors received the same notice about the planned outage. Crawford questioned why the company doesn’t perform the work later in the day or on the weekends.“I pay them 0 a month for my services and that’s just my house,” Crawford said. “This is a lot of money they’re making and I don’t see why they can’t just pay some overtime for a Saturday. We’re all making sacrifices right now and even the big companies need to make the sacrifices as well.”A Cox Communications spokesperson confirmed the outage due to network upgrades. She said the time on the notice is a window and the average time that a customer is without service is two hours.“We recognize the inconvenience to our customers,” said spokesperson Ceanne Guerra. “Our crews are working really hard to complete this work as quickly as possible. This work is going to support their changing needs as they’re working from home and schooling from home.”Guerra said while they do work during off-peak hours, it is not possible to do so all the time.ABC 10News contacted the Sweetwater Union High School District regarding what students should do during any internet outages. “We ask students to work with teachers individually to ensure they receive their assignments and can work offline as best possible,” said spokesperson Manny Rubio. 2192

The outlet reports that the demonstrators at times blocked traffic and set off fireworks, but the protests remained mostly peaceful.WRC-TV in Washington reports that three people were arrested in connection with the demonstrations on Tuesday night. One person was charged with disorderly conduct, while two others were arrested following an "assault incident." It's unclear if or how that assault was linked to the protests.The Washington Post reports that the D.C. protests included one incident where a man tussled with police at Black Lives Matter Plaza.The rest of the U.S. was also largely free of civil unrest. The Associated Press reports that there were "scattered protests" in large cities, including in New York City and Seattle.Officials in some major U.S. cities feared protests would grow violent as returns trickled in. (KGTV) — Two men were charged with assaulting two border patrol agents in separate incidents in the Imperial Beach area this week.Both incidents occurred Thursday night, according to the U.S. Attorney of Southern District of California.In the first incident, Imperial Beach Border Patrol says an agent encountered a five individuals at about 9:30 p.m., one of them identified as Frazy Jiron, a Honduran national. The agent ordered the group not to move, but Jiron stood up, according to officials.RELATED: Convicted murderer caught crossing border with migrants near San Ysidro Port of EntryWhen the agent tried to handcuff Jiron, the Honduran national appeared to say something to the others, causing them to also stand and begin to flee, according to border officials. Jiron elbowed the agent in the chest, the agent said, and a struggle ensued, causing both men to fall down a hill.Jiron was later arrested and admitted to being in the U.S. illegally.In the second incident, another border agent in Imperial Beach encountered a man at about 10:45 p.m., identified as Franklin Ariel Rochac-Garcia, border officials said. Rochac-Garcia was reportedly running toward the agent and refused the agent's requests to stop. Rochac-Garcia reportedly tried to punch the agent as he approached, but missed and the agent brought Rochac-Garcia to the ground.RELATED: Mexico's new president could change border policyRochac-Garcia got back up and began running south toward the border, officials say. He attempted to jump over the border fence but the border agent was able to detain him before he made it over.Rochac-Garcia, an El Salvadoran national, was arrested and admitted to being in the U.S. illegally, according to border officials.Both men are being charged with assault on a federal officer and illegal entry. 1840
