He said in addition to cooperation in traditional fields, the two sides should actively promote cooperation in energy saving, environmental protection, new energy, agriculture and farm produce processing, and among small and medium size businesses to seek long-term, stable and reciprocal common development.The two countries should strengthen cultural exchanges, facilitate language education, two-way travel, and dialogue between each other's media and think tanks, Hu added.He said China and France are expected to together meet local and global challenges to achieve a peaceful and stable international environment, citing reform of the international financial system, improving the global economic governance structure and coping with climate change.Hu told the press conference he and Sarkozy agreed to keep in close consultation on global issues and to conduct active cooperation to solve international and regional disputes by peaceful means.He said the Chinese side sets a high value on the role the EU play in international affairs and appreciates the constructive stance taken by the French side in promoting China-EU relations.When meeting the press, Hu noted France is the initiator of the reform of the global economic governance mechanism.Hu added China supports France's holding of next year's G20 summit.France will hold the presidency of the G20 summit this November and host the 2011 summit.Sarkozy said France is willing to work closely with China to ensure a successful summit.He said that China is a very important strategic partner of France and they both need to cooperate closely on major global issues such as pushing economic growth, and maintaining world peace.He said there is only one China in the world and that Taiwan and Tibet are both part of China. BEIJING, May 17 (Xinhua) -- China hopes the United States will not exclude China when it loosens its export restrictions, Yao Jian, a spokesman with the Ministry of Commerce said here Monday.Yao's remarks came after the United States said over the weekend it might change its exports control regime.The United States should treat all countries equally and not discriminate against China in its export policies, Yao said at a press conference.U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke said in Hong Kong Sunday "concrete proposals" for changes in the exports control could be expected within the next several months.Locke said the review will help with "the sale of highly sophisticated technology that might be embedded in some of the machines and devices like wind turbines, and the software that might operate these very sophisticated systems."

BEIJING, June 5 - Environmental protection is about choosing the right path for economic growth and the right consumption model, beyond pollution control, environment minister Zhou Shengxian said on Friday."We have not successfully put the brakes on severe pollution - a result of the country's vulnerable ecosystems, large population, extensive economic growth that relies heavily on resource consumption and unsound environmental supervision systems," said Zhou at a ceremony to mark World Environment Day, which falls on Saturday.The country needs to step up its green economic policies to facilitate the shift to a "highly effective and low-emission" growth mode, Zhou said.To that effect, the Ministry of Environmental Protection will continue to promote the reform of energy use and pricing to reflect market demand and supply, resource shortages and environmental prices, he said.A tax system that encourages energy saving and environmental protection will be established, and the existing environmental economic policy tools, such as green security, green purchase and green trade, will be improved, Zhou said.Encouraging a green lifestyle has also been highlighted as a crucial measure to curb excessive consumption and reduce emissions.Consumption choices, such as preferences for smaller cars and energy-efficient appliances, could have deep impact on green production, analysts have said.Faced with mounting challenges to fight the country's environmental problems, Zhou was particularly concerned that with the strong economic rebound, emissions may rise again as production capacity expands.
