LAKELAND, Fla. -- A 90-year-old Florida man who dressed in full protective gear to say goodbye to his wife, has died of COVID-19.In a Facebook post, Sam Reck's son-in-law shared the news that Sam has died.JoAnn Reck, Sam's wife of 30 years, died a few weeks earlier after battling COVID-19. She was 86 years old and Sam was 90.Sam Reck had been separated from his wife JoAnn Reck during the pandemic after the state placed a ban on visitors at nursing homes. JoAnn lived in a nursing home and suffered from dementia, and Sam lived in an apartment nearby.Family members said the couple would schedule socially-distant visits once Sam couldn't visit the home any more. (KGTV) - Three dozen scuba divers resumed their search Tuesday for the Canadian girl believed to have drowned in the San Vicente Reservoir.The 12-year-old girl was on a ski boat with six people, including her parents and younger sister, Saturday afternoon when she fell in the water and did not surface.Search teams later found the girl’s damaged life jacket five feet from the boat.RELATED: Search for missing 12-year-old at San Vicente Reservoir continues“The child was at the front of the boat. They were pulling an inflatable behind with the adults. As they come down on speed, the bow of the boat kind of slows and dips, and the child fell overboard,” Sgt. (CNS) - A woman who was hospitalized after being shot with a beanbag projectile during a protest in La Mesa has filed court papers seeking to force the La Mesa Police Department to release the involved officer's name.The petition asks that a San Diego Superior Court judge order the city of La Mesa and the police department to produce the name of the officer who fired a beanbag projectile at 59-year-old Leslie Furcron on the night of May 30.The department has not released the officer's name, though La Mesa police Chief Walt Vasquez issued a statement earlier this month assuring Furcron, "her family and the public that this unfortunate incident will be fully investigated, to include an in-depth look at our crowd control practices."The city and police department could not immediately be reached for comment on the petition filed Friday.Furcron was outside LMPD headquarters with a crowd of fellow protesters demonstrating against police brutality when she was struck in the forehead by what her attorney, Dante Pride, described as a "flying blackjack" and a "metal projectile bean bag," leaving her hospitalized in an intensive- care unit in a medically induced coma.The petition states that Furcron suffered "multiple facial fractures," has not yet regained sight in her left eye, and "will face a lifetime of recovery from the injuries."The petition alleges the La Mesa Police Department declined to disclose records that included the officer's name following a California Public Records Act request from Furcron's attorneys, citing an ongoing investigation and findings that releasing the name could endanger the officer's safety.The petitioner argues that courts have held that releasing officer names in such instances "is in the best interest of justice." (KGTV) -- A car being pursued by sheriff’s deputies crashed into the backyard swimming pool at a Lemon Grove home early Wednesday morning.San Diego County sheriff’s deputies were called to Mt. Vernon Street in response to a report of vehicles racing each other on the street.When deputies arrived, the cars fled, prompting deputies to pursue them.The pursuit was called off after deputies lost track of the vehicles. However, minutes later, a homeowner contacted authorities to report a car had landed in her swimming pool.The home is located directly below Mt. Vernon Street, and it is believed the car had gone over the side and tumbled into the pool.10News learned a man and woman escaped from the submerged car and fled the scene.No injuries were reported. 788
