IDAHO — Newly released court documents are shedding light on the disappearance of Joshua "J.J." Vallow and Tylee Ryan, whose remains were found last week on Chad Daybell's property in Idaho.A probable cause affidavit for Daybell's arrest, filed June 10 in Madison County, outlines what led investigators to Daybell's home and ultimately to the remains of the missing children. This includes cell phone location data of the kids' uncle Alex Cox around the time of their disappearance, as well as text messages Daybell sent to his wife at the time.Tylee, 17, was last seen Sep. 8, 2019, at Yellowstone National Park, while J.J., 7, was last seen on the 22nd. The FBI's Cellular Analysis Survey Team discovered through Cox's cell phone GPS that he was at Daybell's home on Sep. 9 and 23.Cox, the brother of the kids' mother Lori Vallow Daybell, was with the two kids and their mom in Yellowstone that day, verified through photos. They returned home to Rexburg around 8:30 that night.Between 2:42 and 3:37 a.m. Sep. 9, Cox’s phone was at Lori and the kids’ apartment. He lived in a separate apartment in the same complex. They had moved there from Arizona on or around Sep. 1.“This is significant, not only because he was there in the middle of the night, but also because this is the only time in September he appears to go over to Lori’s between midnight and 6 a.m.,” the probable cause statement read.Later that same morning, GPS data indicates that Cox went to Chad Daybell’s home in Salem — specifically outside near the east end of a barn on the property. He appeared to have been on the property from 9:21 to 11:39 a.m. The FBI also discovered text messages between Tammy and Chad Daybell, who were married at the time. Tammy died on Oct. 19, 2019, and Chad married Lori just weeks later.On Sep. 9 at 11:53 a.m., Chad sent a text message to Tammy that said:“Well, I've had an interesting morning! I felt I should bum all of the limb debris by the fire pit before it got too soaked by the coming storms. While I did so, I spotted a big racoon along the fence. I hurried and got my gun, and he was still walking along. I got close enough that one shot did the trick. He is now in our pet cemetery. Fun times!”Investigators spoke to Tammy’s sister about a week before serving a search warrant on Daybell’s property, who confirmed that the couple had a “pet cemetery” on their land. She also confirmed its location to investigators on an aerial photograph. The location was near a firepit where Cox’s phone location was pinged.Cox’s phone was again pinged to Daybell’s property on Sep. 23, the day after J.J. was last seen.J.J. was last seen on Sep. 22 at his home by two of Lori’s friends who were visiting. The next morning, the friends asked Lori where J.J. was, and she told them Cox had come and taken him after he was “acting like a zombie” — which the friends also say Lori had said about Tylee several months before.Cox’s cell phone was again located at Daybell’s property on the morning of Sep. 23 from 9:55 a.m. to 10:12 a.m. The location was specifically pinged to a pond on the northern edge of Daybell’s property.Investigators also noted that Cox was at Daybell’s home two other times: Sep. 6 and Sep. 25, these times inside Daybell’s house and not at the firepit or pond.After discovering this information, investigators obtained and executed a search warrant on Daybell’s property on June 9. They dug in the two locations where Cox’s phone location showed him on the two days after each child’s disappearance and found both their remains.Lori and Chad are both in jail on million bond. Lori is charged with desertion and nonsupport of her children, while Chad is charged with destruction or concealment of evidence.Cox died in December of a heart attack. On one of the islands of the Florida Keys, there’s a small animal that’s causing a big stir. “You know, I love the Key Deer, they’re just, they’re warm and fuzzy,” said Cathy Rhoades, who runs the Florida Keys Wildlife Society. “We do consider them a national treasure,” said Kristie Killam with US Fish and Wildlife. The Key Deer. It’s a little known species of deer that’s native to the island chain. The animal is very small compared to its cousins on the mainland. “The small ones, can get pretty – 2 to 4 pounds at birth," explained Killam. "Some of the tinier ones that look almost like a house cat. Some of the itty bitty fawns." For more than 50 years, the baby Bambi has been a member of the endangered species act. The population declined in the 40s and 50s by hunting. “To the point there was only about 25 to 50 Key Deer left in the wild were the estimates,” said Killam. But they could be removed from the endangered species list. They are recommended on the 3-year work plan for US Fish and Wildlife for de-listing due to recovery. They’re just one of 55 species included in the report. But the tiny animal is incredibly important to Vivian Beck. "They’re just so unique that they literally live among us, or I should say we live among them, and they’re adapting,” said Beck. She’s the president of the Key Deer Protection Alliance, an organization dedicated to keeping the Key Deer protected. Beck thinks removing the animal from the list is premature. US Fish and Wildlife estimates there are between 600 and 800 deer on the island. She says she’s been told as many as 1,000 deer. “Texas A&M said there were 573, so our numbers didn’t match up at all,” said Beck. While the Department of Fish and Wildlife did give us an interview to discuss the deer’s history and biology, they said they can’t comment on an ongoing species assessment. BOSTON, Mass. – Just a few miles away from the constant construction within downtown Boston’s skyline sits an abandoned school that’s about to get a second chance to reopen its doors. “We're doing a historic restoration of this beautiful building,” said Aileen Montour. However, the century-old building won’t be reopening as a school. Instead, it will be converted into a first for Boston: affordable housing for LGBTQ seniors. Aileen Montour is spearheading the project; one that she sees as a personal mission. “The number one concern of LGBT seniors is where are we going to live, where we can be safe and continue to be out and live our lives, not be fearful and have to go back in the closet at this point in life,” said Montour, who is with LGBTQ Senior Housing, Inc. The 74 units there will target low-income LGBTQ seniors, with rent based on a percentage of their income. However, even when all of the units are ready to move in, advocates say it will still only represent a small fraction of the affordable housing needed for the “Stonewall Generation” across the country. In the U.S., it’s estimated there will be 7 million LGBTQ seniors by the year 2030. In addition, 48% of same-sex older couples say they have experienced housing discrimination. Across the country, only about a dozen states have laws specifically prohibiting housing discrimination based on sexual orientation. “LGBT older people, much like the rest of the population, are seeking affordable housing,” said Aaron Tax, who is with SAGE, a group that focuses on advocacy and services for LGBT elders. “But on top of that they're seeking affordable housing that’s going to be welcoming, where they can be themselves.” Ideally, it’s also a place where, in their golden years, these seniors could also be helped in an environment that fosters social connections. “For example, this generation does not have kids, so there is a thought about the size of the apartments,” said Philippe Saad, the project’s architect, with the firm Dimella Shaffer. “So, what we as architects think about in this space, is being able to provide spaces and the environment that will make for these friendships, to allow for people to interact with one another.” In addition to Boston, there is also an affordable housing community for LGBTQ seniors that will be opening in New York City with 300 units.To learn more about the Boston project and LGBTQ Senior Housing, Inc., 2443
