Florida is just one step away from living up to its nickname as “The Sunshine State."Florida Governor Rick Scott signed HB 1013 on Friday. The bill would let Florida remain on Daylight Saving Time year round.The "Sunshine Protection Act," would make Florida exempt from the twice-yearly time change.While the rest of the Eastern United States would set their clocks back in the fall, Florida wouldn’t, leaving it with more sunshine in the evening during the winter. Bush said Sunday that he has extended congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on winning the 2020 presidential election, breaking with prominent members of his party in the process.In a statement released by the George W. Bush Presidential Center, the 43rd president said he is optimistic that Biden will help bring the country together."Though we have political differences, I know Joe Biden to be a good man, who has won his opportunity to lead and unify our country," Bush said in a statement. "The President-elect reiterated that while he ran as a Democrat, he will govern for all Americans. I offered him the same thing I offered Presidents Trump and Obama: my prayers for his success, and my pledge to help in any way I can."Bush also acknowledged President Donald Trump's intent to challenge the election results on allegations of massive voter fraud, which thus far have proven to be baseless."President Trump has the right to request recounts and pursue legal challenges, and any unresolved issues will be properly adjudicated," Bush said. "The American people can have confidence that this election was fundamentally fair, its integrity will be upheld, and its outcome is clear."By issuing congratulations to Biden, Bush — the only former Republican president currently living — has broken with the majority of top Republicans currently serving in government. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy have not yet publicly acknowledged Biden as President-elect, and several other prominent Republicans have publicly refused to declare Biden the victor despite projections from most major media outlets.Sen. Larry Hogan are among the few Republicans who have acknowledged Biden's projected victory."We must come together for the sake of our families and neighbors, and for our nation and its future," Bush said.Bush also congratulated America as a whole for setting records in voter turnout. A record 66 percent of respondents in this year's Gallup poll say they support legalizing cannabis, up from 64 percent last year."I think a lot of consumers are coming out of the shadows, and they just feel more comfortable talking about cannabis, learning about cannabis,” says Trey Fisher.Fisher, with Medicine Man dispensary in Denver, Colorado, says particularly of note in 2018, is the emerging client base of women and the elderly. "The elderly, they're just looking for relief,” explains Fisher. “They're just looking for a product that works, and they don't care about the social stigma anymore."Individual dispensaries are certainly seeing growth, but industry insiders say the pot business as a whole is still being held back."It’s still completely illegal under federal law, and that's sort of putting a damper on the whole industry,” says Raza Lawrence, a cannabis law attorney.Lawrence specializes in helping entrepreneurs obtain cannabis licenses. He says if the U.S. would follow Canada in decriminalizing pot on a national level, the business would explode.  “Once that changes, you're going to see a lot more corporations starting to jump into the fray, and its gonna look a lot more like other types of industries," Lawrence says.Both Lawrence and Fisher say that could happen soon, and they believe the move in Canada could put even more pressure on U.S. lawmakers."I think Canada is gonna really expedite that process a little bit," says Fisher. 1556
