SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Facing an alarming increase of COVID-19 cases, Governor Gavin Newsom is requiring every county in California to close indoor operations.The roll back targets restaurants, wineries, movie theaters, family entertainment, zoos, museums, and cardrooms."We are moving back into a modification mode of our stay-at-home order," Newsom said.San Diego County and 29 other counties on the state's monitoring lists are being directed to close indoor operations at fitness centers, worship services, offices for non-critical sections, personal care services, hair salons and barber shops and malls.State officials confirmed 8,358 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Developers behind Horton Plaza's planned redevelopment have reached a deal with Macy's, allowing the project to continue.Stockdale Capital Partners announced the agreement reached with Macy's to allow the downtown San Diego project to move forward. The massive overhaul will see the nearly vacant mall turned into a mixed-use tech campus.Terms of the deal were not disclosed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Five more people have died from influenza in San Diego and weekly cases hit a season high this past week.County health officials said one of the flu deaths included a 40-year-old man from North County who had underlying medical conditions with no known flu vaccination record. The other deaths ranged from 47 to 90 years of age and all also had underlying medical conditions.This season, there have been a total of 54 influenza-related deaths in the county. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Fire crews battled a small fire that threatened structures in Del Dios Thursday afternoon. According to Cal Fire, the blaze started in the area of Del Dios Highway and Toyon Canyon Road on the west side of Lake Hodges. The fire burned roughly three acres and threatened two structures before fire crews were able to stop the forward rate of spread. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For the first time Tuesday, 12-year-old Kiera Latulippe faced the man who killed her entire family in a drunk driving crash. The Valley Center girl was in the car with her family headed to the Austin, Texas, airport after vacation when the drunk driver hit their car head-on. Her father, Scott; mother, Nancy, and 14-year-old brother, Jackson, all died. Kiera was the only one to survive. On Friday, Guy Brasted was sentenced to 18 years in prison. After the sentencing, Kiera and her uncle and legal guardian, Mark Latulippe, took the stand with an emotional message for Brasted. "It made me miss out on so much, like daddy daughter dances," Kiera said, listing the things she can't do now that her family has been ripped away from her. Everyday I think about him," Kiera said.Since the accident happened two years ago, Latulippe has taken his niece into his own care."I can't replace, I'm a fill-in parent for someone who has tragically had everything robbed from her in one moment," Latulippe says.Latulippe is a CHP officer for California Highway Patrol.
