When Shawna Justice was working on trapping some cats in a neighborhood in Riverview, Michigan, Saturday, she happened to see a dog in someone's yard and she thought he was dead. But when another dog barked, the lifeless dog lifted his head."To think he has spent God knows how long in that backyard dying like that is a very sickening thing," said Justice, who said that she called Riverview police Saturday in hopes of getting help for the dog that was in a fenced yard and no one was home. Justice said the officer on the other end of the line told her that he knew what dog she was talking about and said they'd been out there before and that his owners indicated the dog was about 18-years-old, had hip dysplasia and said there was nothing that could be done. Justice went live on Facebook with an urgent plea for people to call Riverview police to respond to her location quickly and get some sort of medical care for the dog that she knew could not withstand the heat much longer in his condition. The dog, that appears to be a Greyhound-mix, was emaciated. There was another dog in the yard and there was food and water available, but the emaciated dog was in no shape to get to it. Officers did arrive and could be heard on Justice's Facebook recording. "We're going to call animal control. I know they don't work on the weekend," said one officer, who told Justice that they would notify animal control on Monday. "She's suffering from that hip disease. Our canine has the same thing."The officers said they'd be back to check on the dog and see if the owner was home and then they left. Justice, believing the dog would not survive until Monday, remained at the house until the dog's owners returned home. They heard she was live on Facebook and they were upset. 1787

Washington has become the first state in the nation to pass a law allowing composting as an alternative to burial or cremation of human remains.Gov. Jay Inslee signed a bill Tuesday legalizing human composting. The bill will go into effect in May next year.Currently in Washington, bodies can either be cremated or buried. The process of recomposition provides a third option that speeds up the process of turning dead bodies into soil, a practice colloquially known as "human composting." The bill describes the process as a "contained, accelerated conversion of human remains to soil."The bill's sponsor, state 625

When you’re at the drug store picking up an over-the-counter medication, you might notice the price of infant or children’s drugs are more expensive than the adult version.A search online showed that an adult version of Tylenol costs .99 a bottle at Target. The children’s version of the medicine costs .99 for four ounces at the same retailer. But a bottle of infant Tylenol that is two ounces is .79 a bottle. Why is there a large price difference?"When you start to add additional items to a package product, you start to see price differences," said Lisa Gill with Consumer Reports. Added products, like syringes and plastic measuring cups that help dispense the medicine, can add to the cost."That acetaminophen that is in the Tylenol product and store brand product is literally the exact same drug," Gill said.Johnson & Johnson, who makes Tylenol, did not respond to questions on how it determines pricing. But the company isn’t the only name brand that has wide price differences. If you are a brand loyalist, it can be hard breaking away, but Gill said it’s worth it."Believe it or not, the best deal is typically not Tylenol — it's going to be a generic,” Gill said. “The generic version, the store brand, the Walmart, the Target, the CVS, the Walgreens store brand — the store brand is almost always half the price."Although the generic brand for the adult version isn’t quite half of the price of Tylenol, it is still a discount at .49 a bottle. 1480

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Was it a meteor, a comet, space junk falling to Earth or something else?Whatever it was, residents across South Florida and the Treasure Coast took to social media to show photos and video of a large fireball streaking across the sky early Wednesday morning. From Deerfield Beach to Vero Beach, WPTV received calls and emails from people who were perplexed by the strange object.Grace Theodore said she was walking out of a Walmart in Deerfield Beach around 2:19 a.m. when she recorded video of what she called a “double meteor.”Leslie Findley was in Boynton Beach when she spotted an “elongated orange stream flowing from the west coast of Florida to the east coast."Findley said it lasted about 30 to 45 seconds and said she was “quite shocked.”Many of the videos posted to social media show a smaller ball of light being followed by a larger ball of light, which is why some are calling it a "double meteor."Residents in Tampa, Sarasota and Port Charlotte on Florida's west coast also spotted the brilliant ball of light overnight.A spokesperson at the National Weather Service seemed pretty surprised by the the video too, saying, “That video is pretty interesting. No reports of anything here, so your guess is as good as ours as to what it is.”The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office chimed in on 1337

Vice President Mike Pence canceled a previously scheduled event in New Hampshire on Tuesday to return to the White House, two White House officials told CNN, though the reason for scrapping the event was not immediately clear. The vice president's spokeswoman said Pence never left the Washington area and that the event will be rescheduled."Something came up that required the @VP to remain in Washington, DC. It's no cause for alarm. He looks forward to rescheduling the trip to New Hampshire very soon," Alyssa Farah wrote in a tweet. An official close to the vice president told CNN that there was no emergency, saying, "the VP was called back to the White House but no cause for alarm."Pence was scheduled to travel to Manchester, New Hampshire, to participate in a roundtable discussion with patients at the Granite Recovery Center headquarters and deliver remarks on the opioid crisis and illegal drug flow into the state. 939
