Just weeks ahead of the midterm elections, U.S. election databases are coming under attack.A new report finds election hacking attempts have been building since April. One troubling note: the government does not know who is behind the attacks.“Well, it is worrisome. The more we know, the better,” says John Fortier, with the Bipartisan Policy Center. “But I also do think, in the world that we have, we are going to have unknown actors, whether foreign or domestic, making attempts to get into systems.”The good news is that, so far, Homeland Security says none of the attacks have been successful.Fortier thinks that's a sign of enhanced election security and better communication between election officials.“I think we are in a better place now to identify those threats and communicate those threats between federal and local and state election officials, and I think that's a step up,” Fortier says.As the midterms approach, the head of Homeland Security says the government will also be using other security tools, including sensors that allow federal officials to see inside state computer systems in order to detect if there are signs of hacking attempts.“Our network security sensors will cover 90 percent of registered voters,” says Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen. “And on election day, we'll be in full force and hosting a virtual nationwide situation room to assist our partners.Experts continue to insist that voter databases, like registration information, is more at risk than hackers being able to change actual votes. 1559

(KGTV) — Two San Diego breweries are coming together to help veterans and first responders suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.Julian's Nickel Beer Co. collaborated with San Diego's Bitter Brothers Brewing Co. to create Warrior Contribution Beer, a 5%, golden ale described as, "a beer that everyone could enjoy and that would be perfect for our warm San Diego days," Nickel Beer Co. owner, Tom Nickel, says.All of the beer's proceeds will be donated to Julian's Inner North Star PTSD Retreat Center to help provide no-cost retreats to veterans and first responders suffering from PTSD.RELATED: Museum of Beer planned to open in San Diego's East Village next yearNickel says the beer started as a fundraiser idea, before it snowballed into a year-round offering."Then the thought grew into possibly brewing a special beer to release around San Diego for June, which is PTSD Awareness Month. Judge Esther Salas, a US district judge in the state of New Jersey, spoke out for the first time since her son was shot and killed two weeks ago.Salas’ son Daniel Anderl was killed on Salas’ doorstep. He would have celebrated his 20th birthday this weekend."Two weeks ago, my life as I knew it changed in an instant and my family will never be the same. A madman, who I believe was targeting me because of my position as federal judge came to my house,” Judge Salas said.It is believed that Daniel protected his father Mark Anderl from the path of the bullets. The father survived the shooting, but was wounded three times.“As federal judges, we understand that our decisions will be scrutinized and some may disagree strongly with our rulings, but what we cannot accept is when we are forced to live in fear for our lives because personal information, like our home addresses, can be easily obtained by anyone seeking to do us or our families harm,” Salas said. “Unfortunately, for my family, the threat was real and the free flow of information from the internet allowed this sick and depraved human being to find all our personal information and target us.”The suspect, 72-year-old Roy Den Hollander, died by suicide after the shooting. Hollander was also suspected in the killing of Marc Angelucci, the vice president of the National Coalition for Men.
