You deserve a lot more than this,” Mandella said to Davis after locating him.Davis replied, "Well, I applied for the stimulus and all that."Davis says he’s lived in these woods for about three years. It's been three years with no heat, dealing with the elements, and fighting to survive.His story is a lot like others who end up homeless. He made some mistakes, and now he’s paying for them.“Years ago, I sold my house, out in the peninsula. I had good intentions of reinvesting it," he recalled. "When I have problems, I kind of get into a self-destructive mode, and I blew the money. Started doing drugs and everything. You know, I battled with it for quite some time and ended up out here,” said Davis.It may not look like much, but Davis has built a walkway down to where he sleeps, decorated his front entrance, and he even keeps fresh milk from spoiling by cooling it in the stream that runs by.He isn’t the only one who lives here. The outreach workers brought sandwiches and left some for the other people living in the camp, who were present at the time.But Mandella came for a different reason, and it was to let Davis know he has to leave his home in the woods. Mandella says the city parks department is going to evict him, and the others who live in the woods, within a few weeks because of complaints from walkers and people who live nearby.Davis likely only has a few weeks left before he’s forced to leave the place he has called home for the last three years. He hopes to get a hold of his stimulus check and use it to find a place to live.He said he's hoping to find a new place to live that offers some solitude. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - Renting or owning a home in Del Mar is way out of reach for most San Diego families. But unlike other coastal cities, Del Mar has zero affordable apartments. Instead, Del Mar subsidizes rent for six low-income families. On Monday, the county's smallest city could get on the way to offering affordable homes. The Del Mar City Council could move to take advantage of a new state law that streamlines permitting for accessory dwelling units, like a granny flat in the backyard or a separate apartment within a house. The city may ask families who build those units to commit to leasing them to low-income families for thirty years. In exchange, the homeowners would get an additional 500 square feet of space above current zoning when they want to add on to their properties. “There is nothing that brings me to life or makes me feel more at home than being near the coast, and I think it's a blessing and wonderful opportunity,” said Kari Arendsen, who was visiting Dog Beach.  The city is hoping to start the program with two homeowners, but ultimately aims to get 22 affordable homes on line. The affordable homes would be for families earning at least 80 percent of the median income, so a family of two earning about ,200 a year would qualify. Staff at the zoo said Cerah was recently introduced to Berani and her half-sister, Hesty.While Hesty has been affectionate and eager to be around Cerah, Berani has been gentle but reserved and mostly kept his distance, which staff say is normal for male orangutans.Sumatran orangutans are considered critically endangered with an estimated worldwide population of just 14,600. 628

(CNS) -- Racing is set to resume at Del Mar Friday after three racing dates were canceled because 15 jockeys tested positive for the coronavirus.The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club responded to the positive tests that wiped out racing from July 17-19 by instituting new travel restrictions to include only permitting jockeys based in California to ride and prohibiting all jockeys who leave the track to ride elsewhere from returning to Del Mar for the remainder of the summer racing season.Del Mar also re-configured and expanded its jockeys' quarters, including moving some of the functions that normally take place in the jockeys' room to an adjacent area.Racing will be held Monday to make up for one of the canceled days. The other two lost days will be made up later in the season, on dates to be determined, said Tom Robbins, Del Mar Thoroughbred Club executive vice president for racing.Many of the races that had been scheduled for last weekend have been shifted to this weekend.
