A grand jury in Chicago granted an indictment of 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct on actor Jussie Smollet, who is accused of lying about being attacked in late January in Chicago, ABC News reported. The charges come in two sets, according to ABC. One set of charges involve Smollett filing a false police report, when he told officers that two attackers shouted racial and homophobic slurs at him. A second set of charges were for an interview Smollett gave to police later that day. Smollett is out on a 0,000 bond. Two men were originally arrested for the alleged attack, but were later cleared of charges after police claimed that Smollett paid the men to stage the attack. 698

A jury has found Max Harris not guilty of involuntary manslaughter charges in the 2016 fire at Oakland's Ghost Ship warehouse, according to CNN affiliate KGO. A female teacher at a Pennsylvania middle school is on administrative leave after she could be heard on video calling a black man the "N-word" and using other racist language after a fender bender in the school parking lot.The incident happened Thursday at Drexel Hill Middle School, Upper Darby School District Superintendent Daniel McGarry said. The woman has been a teacher there since 2008, he said."Right now, this person is on administrative leave without pay," McGarry told CNN. "We're going to pursue it vigorously. The next steps are the staff member can elect arbitration."He confirmed the woman in the video uses the N-word and a derogatory remark that is offensive to the LGBTQ community toward a parent after a minor accident in the parking lot.The Upper Darby School District is in a residential suburb of Philadelphia. According to the district, the student population of its schools is increasingly diverse: 46.6% are African American, 31.76% are white, 14.4% are Asian/Pacific Islander, 5.62% are Hispanic and 1% are other. The video, posted on Facebook, appears to begin after the accident and as a man says, "I guess she's done cursin' and screaming."The woman cuts him a look as she rubs the bumper of the truck she was driving. She can be heard saying the man is "probably on welfare too."The man says, "Not even a little bit. Six figures a year, ma'am."The teacher, who has not been publicly identified, calls that BS."It's because I'm young and I'm black, the reason why you would say that," he says."That's right, because you're black," she replies, as she continues to rub the bumper."Probably on welfare," he says, repeating her words."That's right," she answers. "Always looking to milk the system. And you see me, a white woman, so you think I got money.""Not even a little bit. Don't even look like you got it," he says. "Not even a little bit.""Go back to your welfare, to your Section 8 house," she says, referring to a federal program of 1980

A family from Connecticut got quite the surprise when their 10-year-old son was called for jury duty.Fifth grade student Nick Dondero received the letter in the mail summoning him to show up.While the family found it a bit comical, they’re wondering how it even happened in the first place.Nick’s mom laughed about it and tucked it away.“Two, three weeks later, I’m going through to pay bills and I’m like ‘oh my gosh, I never sent this back,” she said. Each year, more than 550,000 people in Connecticut are selected for jury duty. The Connecticut Judicial Branch gets a list of names from four places: The Dept. of Motor Vehicles, the Dept. of Labor, Registrar of Voters, and the Dept. of Revenue Services. The list of names the Judicial Branch gets from Revenue Services does not include the date of birth. That is where Nick’s name came from and why he was summoned.“I was wondering what if I don’t go, I wanted to know if that was going to be a problem,” Nick said.It wasn’t a problem. The Judicial Branch said the Dondero family did the right thing. They checked a box on the summons letter saying he was underage and sent it back. Now, 10-year-old Nick is in the clear and does not have to report for jury duty. 1225

A 72-year-old's false teeth got stuck in his throat during surgery and weren't discovered for eight days, doctors have said. The man was having surgery to remove a harmless lump in his abdominal wall, but the operating team neglected to take out his dentures before the operation. He returned to the hospital six days later complaining of blood in his mouth and difficulties breathing and swallowing, which had prevented him from eating solid food.Ultimately, more surgery was needed to resolve the problem, which was revealed in 540
