The ads were paid for by the Justice and Public Safety PAC, funded by billionaire financier George Soros."We need your help to get the word out, San Diego is not for sale!" SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dangerous rescues are on the rise on the cliffs along San Diego's coastline.Broken bones, medical emergencies, even death: these are just some of the calls to San Diego Lifeguards, tasked with performing these rescues. According to a recent Team10 investigation, those calls to lifeguards have doubled in the past four years."We're out here assisting people on a weekly basis," lifeguard Lt. Rick Romero said. "It's pretty dangerous; people can fall, people have fallen, people have died, people have suffered traumatic injuries."Romero said lifeguards average 70 to 100 rescues a year at Sunset Cliffs and Black's Beach. The less-serious calls have been anything from people getting stuck, to medical emergencies, to hikers simply getting lost. Black's Beach had 11 serious injury calls.Romero said the uptick could be explained as the secret spots no longer being secret."We've seen population growth, tourism growth, social media growth...all affect just more people coming down," Romero said.Lifeguards are on duty 24/7 to help in these situations. Cliff rescues have become so common, rope skills are now as basic for them as work in the water.Carrying 40 to 50 pounds of gear each, typically seven lifeguards and three trucks respond to most cliff rescues. Romero said while each rescue is different, most take 45 minutes to an hour to complete.Resources are pulled from other areas along the beach. If rescue crews need to use a helicopter, the cost is more than ,000 an hour to operate.The rescues are paid for by taxpayers, provided by the city, no matter if the patient is a victim of an accident or reckless."We just ask people to bring their cell phones, pay attention to where they're going, have sturdy footwear," Romero said. 2193

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- As the nation continues to process what happened during the first presidential debate, many are expressing frustration about what didn’t happen.Local and national Latino American leaders are calling out the moderator and the candidates for making no mention of the millions of Latinos in the country.Just moments after the debate ended Tuesday night, organizations like the National Association of Hispanic Journalists shared a series of tweets highlighting that Latinos were not mentioned during the debate.According to the Pew Research Center, more than 32 million Latino voters are eligible to vote in November.Voters like Denisse Roldan Newell wanted to hear more from both candidates about their policies on a range of issues.“It's not just immigration, it's not just the border wall, it's having to do with economics, with smalls business development, with affordable health care, with education,” said Roldan Newell.Roberto Alcantar with the Chicano Federation told ABC 10News it was concerning that the candidates made no mention about COVID-19 and it’s disproportionate affect on the Latino community.In San Diego, Latinos make up 34% of the population but 65% of COVID-19 cases."These are not just Latino issues, these are issues for all of us as American. While, yes, we are Latinos, we are American and our issues are America’s issues," said Alcantar.
