SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An attempted murder charge was filed Wednesday against a woman who slit the throat of another woman at a Mira Mesa Walgreens store last weekend, in what has been described as a random attack on a complete stranger.Kelly Ann Green, 55, is accused in Saturday morning's attack on an unidentified 59-year-old woman, who suffered a five-inch laceration across her neck.Green faces 10 years in state prison if convicted of the attempted murder charge and a weapon-use allegation, according to Deputy San Diego County District Attorney Mary Naoom.The prosecutor said the victim was filling her prescription at the Walgreens at 10787 Camino Ruiz when Green approached her, grabbed her by the hair and cut her throat.RELATED: Mira Mesa family forced from home after multiple attacksOther store patrons and employees subdued Green following the attack, which was captured on ``gruesome and very disturbing'' surveillance footage, Naoom said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A San Diego man was sentenced Friday to more than six years in prison for operating a million Ponzi scheme that caused investors to lose more than million.In addition to the 75-month sentence, Jonny Ngo, former president and CEO of NL Technology, LLC, was ordered to pay nearly million in restitution for bilking investors out of money he alleged would be used to fund wholesale purchase orders of smartphone screens and other electronic goods.Prosecutors said the funds were actually spent on personal expenses, such as "a home, luxury cars and gambling."Ngo, 34, told investors that NL Technology was supplying smartphone screens to several buyers, including two that each ordered about million worth of NL Technology products, and prepared false financial and bank statements to back up his claims, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.Ngo pleaded guilty to a mail fraud charge last year."Ngo swindled and conned innocent investors out of their hard-earned money to support his lavish lifestyle," FBI Special Agent in Charge Suzanne Turner said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A registered sex offender who broke into his next-door neighbor's home, where he raped and sodomized a 3-year-old girl, pleaded guilty today to four felony charges and is facing an 85-year prison term.Francisco Diaz, 47, entered his plea to four counts of forcible lewd acts on a child, and admitted serious prior felony convictions, according to Deputy District Attorney Claudia Grasso.Sentencing is scheduled for June 17.Last summer's attack occurred the morning of Aug. 11 in the 5200 block of Maple Street in Oak Park.RELATED: Man arrested after three-year-old says she was kidnapped and touchedDiaz broke a screen and curtain rod and climbed through a window of the sleeping child's bedroom. When the toddler woke up and cried while being sexually assaulted, Diaz carried her out through the window and was walking her toward his home when the defendant's mother saw them and wrapped the child -- who was naked from the waist down -- in a blanket.Police were called around 9:45 a.m. and Diaz was arrested.``It's a parent's worst nightmare,'' Grasso said following Diaz's arraignment last year. ``The violation, the betrayal, (it's just) horrific. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man accused of opening fire inside a Poway synagogue, killing a woman and injuring three other people, pleaded not guilty today to more than 100 federal hate crime charges alleging he acted out of hatred toward the Jewish and Muslim communities.John T. Earnest, 19, is accused not only of the synagogue shooting but also of an earlier arson fire at an Escondido mosque. He is being charged by both federal and state prosecutors and faces a possible death sentence in both cases. Neither office has made a decision regarding whether they will pursue the death penalty.Earnest, of Rancho Penasquitos, is accused of carrying out the shooting at Chabad of Poway on April 27 -- the last day of Passover -- killing Lori Gilbert Kaye, 60, who was shot twice in the synagogue's foyer and died at a hospital.The congregation's rabbi, Yisroel Goldstein, 57, lost an index finger in the shooting. Two other people -- Almog Peretz, 34, and his 8-year-old niece, Noya Dahan -- were also injured.Earnest is also accused of setting a March 24 fire at an Escondido mosque -- a crime to which Earnest allegedly confessed in an online manifesto he posted prior to the synagogue shooting.Following his initial appearance Tuesday afternoon, he's slated to return to court May 28 for a preliminary hearing. He remains held without bail.He was charged last Thursday with 109 federal hate crimes: -- 54 counts of obstruction of free exercise of religious beliefs using a dangerous weapon, resulting in death, bodily injury and attempts to kill; -- 54 counts of hate crimes stemming from the synagogue shooting in violation of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act; and -- one count of damage to religious property by use of fire.Each of the 54 hate crime and obstruction of free exercise of religious beliefs counts apply to a person who was inside the synagogue during the shooting, Brewer said. The agent did not strike Earnest, but did hit the suspect's car, authorities said.Police said Earnest called 911 at around 11:30 a.m. and said he had been involved in the shooting and was armed.According to the federal complaint, Earnest told a dispatcher, ``I just shot up a synagogue. I'm just trying to defend my nation from the Jewish people ... They're destroying our people ... I opened fire at a synagogue. I think I killed some people.'' Bernardo Drive, less than two miles west of the synagogue, Deputy District Attorney Leonard Trinh said.Earnest got out of his vehicle with his hands up and was taken into custody without further incident, according to police.In the ``open letter'' that authorities say Earnest posted online shortly before the shooting, the author espouses flagrant anti-Semitic sentiments and a need to protect the ``European race.'' He wrote that he spent four weeks planning the attack, citing his ``disgust'' for Jews and a desire to kill them, and expressed admiration for the Australian white nationalist who attacked two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in March, killing 50 people.The writer also claims responsibility for the March 24 fire set at the Dar-ul-Arqam Mosque, also known as Islamic Center of Escondido.
