SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- One lucky couple will spend the rest of their lives together after crossing the finish line at America's Finest City half marathon together. The couple got engaged at the finish line in Balboa Park.The half marathon kicked off at the Cabrillo National Monument. Participants ran through Point Loma, past the San Diego Bay, the Embarcadero and ended in Balboa Park.The half-marathon is part of a series of racing called the Triple Crown, which means if runners participated in the La Jolla and Carlsbad marathons, they received a special medal today. Proceeds from the race go to several local charities.  660

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A bill requiring California prosecutors to erase or reduce tens of thousands of marijuana criminal convictions was approved by the state Legislature on Wednesday and now awaits Gov. Jerry Brown's signature.When voters passed Proposition 64 in 2016 to allow adult use of marijuana, they also eliminated several pot-related crimes. The proposition also applied retroactively to pot convictions, but provided no mechanism or guidance on how those eligible could erase their convictions or have felonies reduced to misdemeanors.The Senate passed a bill Wednesday that would make that happen.RELATED: What to know about 2018's new marijuana laws in CaliforniaThe bill orders the state Department of Justice to identify eligible cases between 1975 and 2016 and send the results to the appropriate prosecutor.The state DOJ estimates that almost 220,000 cases are eligible for erasure or reduction. SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. (KGTV)— With precipitation numbers up, participation numbers were down for outdoor events around San Diego County. But many who chose to endure the rain said it was worth the extra splash. It’s a rare sight in the heart of San Diego: kids sledding on a giant snowy hill at Montgomery Waller Park. For the Murillo family, it’s an annual tradition. “We go to see Santa Claus, we go to the little stores that they have there, and we come to sled down for a little bit,” mother Diane Murillo said. She and her children were bundled up while having fun at San Diego Snow Day. But this year, Murillo noticed that the crowds were much smaller. “It’s a lot smaller. It’s empty today. There’s actually parking,” Murillo laughed. She said the steady rain discouraged many folks from showing up. The City of San Diego even had to cancel Santa Claus’ helicopter fly-over of the park, due to inclement weather. Murillo also noticed that the snowy hill was very sludgy, and only about half its normal length. But by the looks of the children, the event was still worth it. Meanwhile, in the South Bay, there was a tent full of Christmas-themed games. From Candy Cane trees, ring tosses, to face paint, families enjoyed the free entertainment at the Chula Vista Children’s Faire. “It helps, because that way, we’re not getting wet while they are getting their stuff done and doing the activities. So it’s nice,” mother Felice Navarro said. Her neighbor invited her and her children to join them at the fair this year. The kids also had an option to splash around if they wanted, as they ran through an obstacle course as Chula Vista junior firefighters. Fun was not just reserved for children. Up at Liberty Station, hundreds of people waited in line to join the San Diego BBQ and Beer festival. 25-year-old Victoria Ransom was not going to let the rain dampen her birthday celebration. “We wanted to be able to double fist if that was a possibility. Hands-free rain protection,” Ransom joked. She said she bought eight rainbow-colored umbrella hats online, the moment she found out about the weather. “You drink, you eat, it’s great,” Ransom said. “I got a nice pour because it’s my birthday, and we’re having a great time.” 2243

They were chosen from around 280 that applied."It's more art than science," says Mike Krenn, the CEO of San Diego Venture Group. They're one of the sponsors of the event. "There were so many companies. We fought long and hard over who were the final 10. But they've all got some momentum going to market, all chasing big opportunities."One company, DoWhop, is an online marketplace to buy and sell experiences around San Diego. It's founder, Rae Lietzau, says winning this competition would mean expanding her workforce and bandwidth on the site."At this stage, every dollar counts," says Lietzau. "Right now it means allowing more people to get paid to do what they love to do."In addition to SD Venture Group, the event is put on by Tech Coast Angels and the John G. Howard Foundation. All three groups work to improve business in the region. Krenn says this year's competition shows how San Diego has become a hub for start-ups."We're really on the upswing," says Krenn. "It's exciting to see a lot of people imported from silicon valley. Everything's trending in the right direction."Krenn also noted that the winning team from 2 years ago went on to raise around million in capital after the competition.Even companies that don't win cash at Quick Pitch usually get a boost from the exposure.
