Liquidation sales are finally starting at hundreds of Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores around the US, as the troubled toy retailer begins the process of going out of business.Most stores will start their liquidation sales Thursday, March 22, at 10 a.m. or when doors open.Millions of parents and children are dreaming of bargains on Barbies and savings on Star Wars. But before you grab an empty shopping cart and start hunting for Black Friday-style bargains, you may want to know a few cautions.If earlier Toys R Us closing sales are any indication, among the 200 stores that started liquidating in February, you may want to bring some skepticism along with your wallet. We went to one store at the beginning of its closing sale,and shoppers said they were not impressed.So here are 9 commonly asked questions:1. How big are the discounts? In the first week, they may not be great.  We found signs saying "up to 40 percent off," but most items had much less of a discount than 40 percent?off. Ten or 20 percent off was more the norm in the first few days, and 10 percent off may not be any great deal.2. Will they discount recent sales prices?  No, as with any liquidation sale, discounts are off full list price. Because of that, our check found that Lego sets and video games like Call of Duty were no cheaper than the same items at Walmart, despite the 20 percent markdown.3. Is everything on markdown? They may be this time.  However, among stores that started liquidating in February, diapers, baby wipes, and formula were not on sale.  That may change, as stores need to clear out everything this time.4. How do you know if the item is a deal? You may want to use a price comparison app like RedLaser, where you scan the bar code of the toy you are thinking of buying, to see if it is cheaper elsewhere. Or simply look up the item on Amazon or Walmart.com.5. Will they honor gift cards? Yes, until April 15th, according to the store.  But you may want to use them in the next week, because pickings will get slimmer and slimmer as the days go on.6. What if something is broken or missing? You will be stuck. All sales are final.7. What about the Babies R Us gift registry?  That will stay open until the stores close, but parents of newborns may want to start a new registry somewhere else.  8. Is Babies R Us really closing? (KGTV) - Dr. Greg Skomal and Meteorologist Joe Merchant are working together as they test a new theory on how sea breeze may correlate with set off a predatory chain reaction.So far their research has taken them to the Bahamas and Cape Cod, both locations on the East Coast, given several recent attacks. Skomal says, "It could be weather conditions it could be water temperature so were testing all these various factors to see if there's any patterns including Joe's ideas that drive the behavior of these sharks." Merchant believes a weather condition called a sea breeze may set off a predatory chain reaction. He says it brings nutrient rich deep water closer to the surface, attracting tiny marine life, which attracts larger fish and in turn attract the oceans largest predators, sharks. Fisheries Research Biologist Heidi Dewar tells 10News, "On the East Coast you have the warm Gulf Stream that moves broad on a continental shelf and our coast we have a cold current coming from the north and a very narrow continental shelf." For this reason, we may not be able to use the same theory for our coast."It's not clear that would translate to the West Coast; we have a very different ecosystem over here," Dewar tells 10News. Dewar says pinpointing sharks' locations and predicting where they will be next is going to require much more data and research. (KGTV) — A La Mesa home that was being fumigated for termites was burglarized Wednesday evening, according to the family."It's a shame," longtime neighborhood gardener Kit Brett said, lamenting with a neighbor about the burglary so soon after Christmas."It's my biggest fear, I always keep everything locked when I'm in the house," Diane Helmer said. Her son and daughter-in-law live a few houses down from the family who was burglarized.What the criminal didn't realize was there were two signs indicating a home security system, watching their every move. Neighbor Katy Holm told 10News the homeowners' phone alerted them of movement inside the home, around 7:40 p.m. They called police who locked down the neighborhood."My neighbors are very private people to start with, a wonderful family with three children," Holm said.Every neighbor who spoke with 10News was shocked anyone would risk their life to steal."They don't realize your skin's your biggest organ and everything, that, that chemical sucks right into your skin," Brett said."Makes me wonder if it's somebody who has knowledge of how to protect themselves against those sorts of chemicals and maybe they're targeting tented homes, and it's something they should be aware of," Holm said.10News reported on two similar stories in 2018, one in Oceanside and the other in Skyline. After a spike in tented home break-ins in Los Angeles, police told homeowners to remove valuables and put dowels in windows so they can only open a few inches. (KGTV) - Students in a UC San Diego computer science course are still trying to understand why someone put a racial slur in their study guide dozens of times.The CSE 134B midterm study guide was a collaborative effort among the students. Only those in the class had access to it and could edit it anonymously.The night before the exam, students like Raymond Arevalo were shocked to see the n-word in it 85 times."I got on the study guide and saw the instance of the n-word, and then I noticed another instance," said Arevalo. "I was really shocked and kind of mad because this wasn't the first time this has happened before in other classes I've been."Arevalo says he has experienced a negative culture in the computer science program at the school. He says far too often minorities and women are targeted in the male-dominated field.He shared images of the defaced midterm online, hoping to raise awareness of the problems he believes exist."People continue to do these things knowing that they won't get in trouble, and it's like a small joke to them, if the person were to get in trouble that would be nice," said Arevalo.The story was first reported in The Triton, an independent, student-run news source. LEXINGTON, Ky. — A car wash in Lexington, Kentucky is offering a wash, a shine, and a scare this Halloween season.Rainstorm Car Wash has transformed its facility into the ‘Tunnel of Terror,’ a family friendly event that will be held every Friday and Saturday night until Halloween.“With all the COVID stuff, a lot of haunted houses weren't open or anything like that,” said Reese Kemp, the manager of Rainstorm's Lexington location. “So we figured let's have a great time.”When Gov. Andy Beshear unveiled his plan for a safe Halloween, he urged people to avoid haunted houses, citing the likelihood that COVID-19 could spread in such tight quarters.Those concerns don’t really apply to a haunted car wash."When you're in your car, you don't have to worry about getting within six feet,” Kemp notes. “Your windows are up the entire time, the [employees] can have a blast and you don't have to worry about coming into contact or spreading or anything like that.”While your car is getting washed, people will notice employees dressed up as scary characters, trailing the cars to give families a fright.As part of the event, Rainstorm has partnered with local food banks.
