DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — The re-extension of a facial covering directive in Palm Beach County, Florida is being called "medical tyranny" by some opponents who took to the streets Saturday afternoon in Delray Beach to display their frustrations.Chris Nelson, the lead organizer of the "Reopen South Florida" rally, points to statistics that show the county's mortality rate has fallen."What we're seeing right now is a dangerous precedent," Nelson said. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - San Diego’s North County Transit District detailed Friday the structural reinforcements made to the Del Mar bluffs following a “washout on the tracks.” Two areas were washed out on the bluffs south of Seagrove Park following the Thanksgiving storm, the NCTD reported. Jacobs Engineering and Leighton Consulting reviewed the cause of the track washouts. A preliminary report found the following contributing factors: Excessive stormwater run-on from the City of Del Mar’s residential streets and adjacent properties. Existing drainage facilities (earthen swale drainage ditches) to include culvert clean outs, stormwater overflow not channeled correctly built up and overflowed the main track just south of 13th Street causing erosion on the west side of the Cast-In-Drilled-Hole (CIDH) piles. Debris was observed on the ends of the ties and evidence of the drainage overflowing the track adjacent to the CIDH piles. Drainage channels were completely silted in at this location as well. Excessive silt was a result of overwhelmed inlets from heavy rain and excessive City of Del Mar run-on stormwater that mobilized right-of-way sediment and sediment migrated further, blocking inlets and filling in earthen trackside ditches. The northern washout location will require engineers to analyze it, according to the NCTD. The repairs will be made no later than Jan. 11-12, a date previously scheduled to complete other rail work. Until the repairs are finished, the NCTD said it will have an inspector stationed at the bluffs around the clock to ensure safety for passengers and train crews. It is critical that we advance projects to stabilize the Bluffs for the next 20 to 30 years so that the region can determine and implement a permanent solution. Over the last few years, we have all seen the impacts of sea level rise and we should expect that we will continue to see more weather-related events like this most recent rainstorm moving forward,” said NCTD Executive Director Matthew Tucker. (KGTV) - A trio of teenage girls is helping the Community Resource Center fill their "Holiday Baskets" this year.The girls, Lucie Babcock, Talia Buzi and Abbie Raysman, donated hundreds of dollars' worth of toys, food and household items to the CRC's yearly campaign."It's just a great feeling to know you're givine and helping people have an amazing holiday season," Lucie says.The three girls held a bake sale earlier this month to raise money. They sold muffins, cookies, brownies, coffee and orange juice in their Carmel Valley neighborhood."It was so much fun," says Abbie. "Lucie's brother was dancing in the middle of the street with a sign, stopping traffic."The bake sale raised around 0, which the girls used on a shopping spree for the donations.The CRC Holiday Baskets program helps 1,600 needy families in the North County. It gives them toys, clothes, food and more for the Christmas season. Organizers say they're impressed with the young girls' desire to give, and that it's small donations like these that help them serve so many people.Lucie started donating to Holiday Baskets when she was 9 years old. Over the years, her bake sale grew to the point where she needed help. Her friends Talia and Abbie were happy to lend a hand."I think it's a really great organization," says Talia of the CRC. DENVER — The City of Denver has dealt with at least 289 cases of public urination or defecation so far in 2018.“You’ll come outside in the morning and someone will have just used the restroom all over the wall,” Denver resident Jake Rose said.Rose, who lives in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of the city, says he sees the issue when he walks into his alley to get to his garage.“It’s pretty offensive. I’d rather not see it,” he said.KMGH contacted several residents in the Capitol Hill neighborhood through the Nextdoor app to get their thoughts.“This is a HUGE issue in the area,” one resident said. “This problem has increased dramatically.” Another added that there was “just poop everywhere.”Denver police keep track of how many citations they give out for certain municipal code violations. From January to November, that number came in at 289 for public urination or defecation. A police spokesperson added that usually officers give warnings, sometimes multiple, before issuing a citation.There were another 136 complaints through 311 for human waste in the public right-of-way.“Any waste in the public right of way is essentially a public health issue because that waste can go into our waterways, people can be exposed to it, and we don’t want that,”said Jeremy Garland of the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment.Garland says multiple city departments work together to try to address the issue. DENVER, Colorado — A gunman did not go to Arapahoe High School "this past Friday" with the intention of killing people.According to a post that's been circulating on Facbook for awhile, the shooter was "the only one dead" after an "armed school resource officer confronted him." That post has been recirculating following a deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida on Feb. 14, 2018, which has spurred a bigger national conversation about arming teachers and about gun control.There was not a school shooting incident in Arapahoe recently, nor on Dec. 11, 2015. There was a shooting at the school Dec. 13, 2013 in which a shooter, an 18-year-old senior and debate club member, did shoot another student, who died several days later. The gunman also attempted to start a fire in the school and eventually shot himself in the head.According to fact-checker website Snopes.com, a school custodian saw the shooter and alerted security personnel. Those security professionals were joined by a deputy, but none shot the gunman.They did help minimize casualties by directing civilians at the scene and racing to confront the shooter.CNN reports the entire incident was over in 80 seconds.
