SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two people were injured after a fire broke out on a boat in Mission Bay, engulfing the vessel, Thursday.San Diego Fire-Rescue responded to the fire on the 30-foot vessel off Ingraham St. just after 3 p.m.Two people were burned by flames and jumped from the boat. They were transported to UCSD Medical Center, though the extent of their injuries is unknown.Witnesses said they initially saw smoke but thought the fire would be extinguished. Within five minutes, witnesses say the flames grew higher and panic set in."It started catching on fire, people started jumping off into the water," said Jorge Segura, who captured video showing a SDFD boat dosing the flames early on. 701

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A group of ten college girls rode their bikes from Seattle to San Diego to fight sex trafficking. The group is comprised of women from Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Alabama.Beginning in Seattle and ending in San Diego, these first-time riders biked down the West Coast, meeting with communities and local leaders along the way to spark conversations and raise money for the long-term, rehabilitative care for children rescued from sex traffickers.This is the third year for Pedal the Pacific and this year they nearly doubled their financial goal. They ended up raising over 250 thousand dollars. The organization tells 10News, "The team just received a 0,000 donation from the Harry W. Bass Jr Foundation. The foundation says they were appalled by Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged crimes, but they found a positive way to make a difference with their donation to Pedal the Pacific."All of the money raised will be donated to The Refuge Ranch, the largest long-term, live-in rehabilitation facility for child survivors of sex trafficking in the US. 1071

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A man suspected in an attack at a Rolando 7-Eleven that left a father of four on life support pleaded not guilty to one charge of assault with a deadly weapon Friday.The assault charge includes a special allegation for great bodily injury on the victim.John Cowan Patch, 26, is accused of striking 30-year-old George Almestar in the head with a wrench during an argument early Tuesday morning. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two tropical storms bearing down on the Eastern Pacific have forced a Norwegian Bliss cruise ship to abandon its original route and stop in San Diego.The stopover for the cruise ship came just before 7 a.m. Wednesday. The ship was originally scheduled to sail from Los Angeles to several ports in Mexico but was forced to change that route due to tropical storms Willa and Vicente.The new route has the cruise ship heading for San Francisco to San Diego to Ensenada, Mexico. The ship is scheduled to depart from San Diego at 6 p.m. Wednesday.Norwegian Cruise Line said in a statement that guests were alerted to the modified itinerary as soon as possible."Due to Hurricane Willa and Tropical Storm Vincente in the Eastern Pacific, we modified Norwegian Bliss’ itinerary from Los Angeles," the cruise line said. "Our onboard team is working to ensure the best vacation experience possible given these weather-related changes."Tropical storm Willa was downgraded from a Category 5 Hurricane Wednesday, but still made landfall with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With the pandemic prompting San Diegans to wear facial coverings, and practice physical distancing and stringent hand hygiene, flu season's start has been slowed.According to the county's Influenza Watch report published Oct. 21, San Diego County has reported 10 flu cases to date this season, compared to 320 cases at this time last year. Last year's season totaled 20,711 flu cases.The county says no influenza-related deaths have been reported so far this season. The CDC says the flu season in the U.S. typically occurs in the fall and winter, with the season peaking in December and February.County health officials say health precautions due to the coronavirus and an increase in the rate of residents receiving flu vaccinations have kept flu numbers low so far."Influenza activity has been very low so far this season in San Diego County. This may in part be due to the social distancing, hand washing, and mask wearing interventions instituted to reduce the transmission of SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
