SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Starting Wednesday, cruise ships will return to the San Diego Embarcadero — but they will not be picking up any customers for months to come. Experts say the longer the vessels stay, the harder it is for the cruise industry to bounce back.The Holland America Koningsdam returned to the Port of San Diego Wednesday morning. It is one of five cruise ships scheduled to dock at the Embarcadero for fuel and supplies. But not to pick up guests.The vessels include:Holland America Koningsdam – December 23Princess Cruises Emerald Princess – December 24 (leaves for Los Angeles after San Diego visit)Holland America Westerdam – December 28Holland America Zuiderdam – January 8Holland America Noordam – January 11"Their revenues compared to say the same time last year are literally down 99%," financial advisor Dennis Brewster said.According to the Port of San Diego, there have been 119 canceled cruises since March and a loss of 0 million in regional economic activity. Unlike airlines and restaurants, which are two other industries hard hit by the pandemic, Brewster says cruises have no Plan B."Their revenues literally went to zero," Brewster said. "I mean, the others were really bad too, but you can't do a cruise ship on a takeout or drive-through."The Port says each cruise line must follow the CDC's "Framework for Conditional Sailing Order" before they can set sail. The first phase is to test and safeguard the crew. The second is a simulated voyage where the ships must prove their ability to mitigate COVID-19 risk. After that, they can slowly reintroduce passengers on their voyages.In the meantime, the ships and crews will stay put. But will the companies be able to stay afloat?"Even if the CDC and other organizations say, 'January one, you can resume your operations,' how many people would get on today?" Brewster asked.The hope is that travel will be on everyone's radar once it shifts away from the coronavirus."I think all of us have spent enough time at home the last nine months to last the next nine years," Brewster said. "So that's a good thing for the industry. There is going to be quite a bit of pent-up demand."According to the Port of San Diego, Holland America has some cruises scheduled to depart in April and May. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Several people were hospitalized after they reportedly fell ill at a Sorrento Valley pharmaceutical company.San Diego Fire-Rescue crews were called to 6769 Mesa Ridge just before 2 p.m. Tuesday to reports that a 60-year-old man was passed out outside the business, Inovio Pharmaceuticals.Bystanders reportedly began CPR and used a defibrillator on the man.Crews say that additional people were transported after falling ill. In all, two people transported themselves to Scripps Memorial Hospital while two others were transported by emergency crews.Their conditions are not known at this time.SDFD said they believe the victims became sick after eating food brought in by an employee.  727

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld's newest roller coaster is set to open just in time for the summer.The park's Tidal Twister roller coast will welcome its first riders on May 24, after breaking ground just last October. A total of 47 people died in DUI-related crashes in 2018 compared to 27 deaths over the same time period in 2017. DUI arrests also saw a significant rise. More than 1,100 people were arrested for DUI in 2018 compared to 917 in 2017. In San Diego County, three people died due to DUI-related crashes, tying with 2017. DUI arrests rose slightly from 56 to 57 in 2018. The reporting period for the arrests and deaths was Friday, December 21 through Tuesday, December 25. 584

While only three miles long, the trail in Mission Trails Regional Park is steep and often rocky, with no shade. During the cooler months, the trail is popular for dog owners. County experts say dogs with short snouts, like bulldogs, pugs, and Boston terriers, can have difficulty catching their breath in hot weather. The high heat also puts stress on puppies, older dogs, and overweight pets. Match the trail with his endurance in mind.Take more water than you think you’ll need and a water bowl.Take plenty of breaks, preferably in the shade.Check your dog’s paws regularly to make sure they’re not getting burned.Watch for signs of dehydration or heatstroke. They can include excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, weakness or bright red gums, refusal to walk further, collapse, shaking, shock and seizures. If your dog suffers any of these symptoms, stop, preferably in the shade, and offer water.
