VALLEY CENTER, Calif. (KGTV) - A North San Diego County resident resorted to Wild West measures after he was the victim of a crime, creating "Wanted: Dead or Alive" posters to find a thief. The San Diego Sheriff’s Office says approximately ,800 worth of items ranging from power tools to a mountain bike were stolen from a home on Valley Center Road on February 16.SDSO was working the case when the homeowner told deputies he had hung posters with the suspect’s image bearing ‘wanted dead or alive’ and the station’s number around town.“We don’t encourage vigilantism,” said Sgt. Russell Ryan.Ryan says SDSO asked the man to remove the posters but the man claimed he was exercising his first amendment rights.SDSO’s Valley Center substation took to Twitter to clarify they were, in fact, looking for the suspect but there was not a death warrant for alleged thief.Deputies were able identify the suspect as 23-year-old Jose Martinez, thanks to the homeowner's surveillance video. Martinez was taken into custody on Wednesday.Martinez is currently being held at the Vista Detention Facility on several burglary-related charges and is believed to be related to other recent thefts, according to SDSO.Sgt. Ryan says deputies have been able to recover the stolen bike and are searching for the other items.Watch the full story with reporter Travis Rice on 10News at 5 p.m. 1413

TUCSON, Ariz. — Archeologists from the University of Arizona and Stanford University along with archeologists from Italy have discovered a 10-year-old's body at an ancient Roman site suggesting the child was given a "vampire burial" to prevent the child coming back from the dead. The skeletal remains included a skull with a rock intentionally inserted into the mouth. Researchers believe the stone may have been placed there as part of a funeral ritual to contain a disease like malaria."I have never seen anything like it. It's extremely eerie and weird," said David Soren, a Univeristy of Arizona archeologist. The discovery was made at La Necropoli dei Bambini, or the Cemetery of the Babies. The cemetery dates back to the mid-fifth century when a deadly malaria outbreak swept the area, killing many young children and babies.Until now, archeologists believed the cemetery was designed for infants, toddlers and unborn fetuses. In previous excavations, a 3-year-old girl was the oldest child found. Now, archeologists are looking into whether the cemetery was used for older children too."There are still sections of the cemetery that haven't been excavated yet, so we don't know if we'll find older kids," said Jordan Wilson, a bioarcheologist with the University of Arizona. In previous excavations, archeologists found signs of witchcraft, including toad bones, raven talons and bronze cauldrons."We know that the Romans were very much concerned with this and would even to the extent of employing witchcraft to keep the evil — whatever is contaminating the body — from coming out," Soren said.Although the body will undergo DNA testing, the child had an abscessed tooth, which is a side effect of malaria, that suggests the child may have died because of the disease.Archeologists believe the rock was intentionally inserted after death because of the position of the jaw. These types of burials are called "vampire burials" since they are associated with the belief that the dead could rise again. 2062

Vice President Mike Pence discussed the National Space Council with entrepreneur and inventor Elon Musk during a trip to California last month, a source familiar with the meeting says. The two powwowed at a Los Angeles hotel one evening while the vice president was in the state for a fundraising swing. The conversation focused on the council, which aims to streamline and coordinate national space policy. Pence leads the panel at President Donald Trump's direction.Musk is one of several business leaders exploring private space travel through his company, SpaceX.Musk quit two presidential advisory councils after Trump announced the United States' withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement.Musk tweeted at the time: "Am departing presidential councils. Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world."On Friday, the federal government released a congressionally mandated report that found "no convincing alternative explanation" for the changing climate other than "human activities, especially emissions of greenhouse gases."SpaceX has scored a number of lucrative government contracts in recent years. The company is currently fulfilling a .6 billion contract with NASA to send supplies to the International Space Station. It also has an million contract to send an Air Force satellite into space in 2018. Last month, it launched a spy satellite for a US intelligence agency.SpaceX referred questions to the vice president's office. 1482

Verizon just admitted that the value of its media brand, Oath, is essentially worthless.Verizon announced Tuesday that it would take a .6 billion writedown on its the media unit, which includes Yahoo and AOL.Oath's brand value is now worth just 0 million, according to Verizon. That's a stunning decrease in value since it formed in 2017. Verizon said Oath's brand was worth .8 billion when it last accounted for the company's goodwill valuation.Verizon snapped up a number of legacy media brands in recent years to create Oath. It bought Yahoo for .5 billion in 2017 and AOL, which owns HuffPost, for .4 billion in 2015.With virtually no goodwill brand value, Oath's overall value (assets and goodwill) is now worth half of what it was a few years ago.The telecommunications giant said the integration of Yahoo and AOL didn't meet expectations.Oath "has experienced increased competitive and market pressures throughout 2018 that have resulted in lower than expected revenues and earnings," according to a filing with the SEC Tuesday. Facebook, Google and Amazon are sucking up ad dollars, forcing publishers to search for other streams for revenue. The Verizon media unit's poor performance led the company to make "unfavorable adjustments to Oath's financial projections" for the next five years.Verizon plans to focus more on wireless technology and less on content and distribution. This summer, Verizon replaced CEO Lowell McAdam with Hans Vestberg, the telecom company's former chief technology officer. In September, Oath CEO Tim Armstrong left. He was a driving force behind Verizon's media acquisitions. Armstrong was replaced by K. Guru Gowrappan, Oath's president and former chief operating officer.Verizon announced Monday that 10,400 management employees had accepted voluntary buyout deals, out of 44,000 who were eligible. The buyouts are part of a plan to cut costs and shift investments into wireless and 5G. 1942
