A Washington man who followed the Pittsburgh synagogue suspect on social media was arrested on gun charges after his relatives reached out to authorities, federal court documents show.Jeffrey R. Clark Jr. was charged Tuesday with illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine and transporting a firearm in interstate commerce.Clark's family members tipped off authorities after they grew concerned over his involvement with the so-called alt-right movement, an affidavit says. It said he was "friends" with synagogue shooting suspect Robert Bowers on Gab, a social media platform that describes itself as "the free speech social network."On October 27, within hours of the attack that killed 11 people at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Clark's brother, Edward, went to Theodore Roosevelt Island in Washington and fatally shot himself, the affidavit says."After the death of Edward Clark, Jeffrey Clark became more outspoken about his radical views, expressing them openly to his family members who were in the area following Edward Clark's death," the affidavit says. "During these conversations, Jeffrey Clark defended Robert Bowers' killings at the Tree-of-Life Synagogue. Jeffrey Clark also stated that he and Edward Clark had both fantasized about killing 'Jews and blacks.' "A few days after the suicide, two family members called federal authorities and said Jeffrey Clark had been "really riled up" and "agitated" after his brother's death, and he could be a danger to himself or others, the affidavit says. 1534

Already under scrutiny about a dog dying in an overhead bin and another dog being accidentally sent to Japan, United Airlines on Friday acknowledged its third animal-related mistake in a week.A flight was diverted to Akron, Ohio, on Thursday after the airline realized a pet had been loaded onto the flight in error, airline spokeswoman Maggie Schmerin told CNN.Flight 3996 was carrying 33 passengers from Newark, New Jersey, to St. Louis, but the pet was due to fly from New Jersey to Akron. United told CNN the unidentified animal was "safely delivered to its owner."United said it offered compensation to all passengers as a result of the diversion. The airline declined to provide details about the compensation. There were two earlier animal-related mistakes made by United Airlines this week.Tuesday, a 10-year-old German shepherd named Irgo was flown to Japan when he was supposed to end up in Kansas. In Irgo's place was a Great Dane that was supposed to be en route to Japan.Irgo was reunited with his family Thursday. United issued an apology after the discovery of the switched dogs.Monday, a French bulldog died on a Houston-to-New York flight after a United flight attendant told its owners to put the dog, in its carrier, in an overhead bin. United spokesman Jonathan Guerin said the passenger told the flight attendant there was a dog in the carrier, but the attendant "did not hear or understand her, and did not knowingly place the dog in the overhead bin."The incident drew outrage online and prompted a US senator to demand an explanation from United."As we stated, we take full responsibility and are deeply sorry for this tragic accident. We remain in contact with the family to express our condolences and offer support," Guerin said. He added that in order to prevent another situation like this, the airline will issue bright-colored bags to customers traveling with in-cabin pets."This visual tag will further help our flight attendants identify pets in-cabin," Guerin said. 2046

Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore says he's being hounded by the news media over sexual allegations against him, while briefly addressing the controversy Tuesday night."Why do you think they're giving me this trouble? Why do you think I'm being harassed by media and by people pushing allegations in the last 28 days of the election? ... After 40-something years of fighting this battle, I'm now facing allegations and that's all the press wants to talk about," Moore said while speaking at a church conference in Jackson, Alabama.Moore, an evangelical Christian who was twice ousted as Alabama's chief justice, suggested he's being attacked for his hardline views on faith in public life as part of an ongoing "spiritual battle.""But I want to talk about the issues," he added. "I want to talk about where this country's going, and if we don't come back to God, we're not going anywhere."Multiple women have said that Moore pursued relationships with them when they were teenagers while he was in his 30s. One woman said she was 14 years old when Moore initiated sexual contact with her. And on Monday, a separate Alabama woman alleged Moore sexually assaulted her when she was a teenager, and described her experience at a news conference, represented by attorney Gloria Allred.Moore characterized those allegations as politically motivated, and quipped during his Tuesday night speech that he's the "only one that can unite Democrats and Republicans, because I seem to be opposed by both."Republicans have continued to voice concern over Moore's campaign bid amid the allegations, and as of Tuesday night, the Republican National Committee had withdrawn from a joint fundraising agreement with Moore, according to a Federal Election Commission filing.Monday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Moore should step aside."I believe the women, yes," McConnell said.Moore, who has repeatedly denied the allegations, has also threatened to sue The Washington Post over the report that broke the news last week."The Washington Post published another attack on my character and reputation because they are desperate to stop my political campaign. These attacks said I was with a minor child and are false and untrue -- and for which they will be sued," Moore said Sunday night during a campaign speech in Huntsville, Alabama.Moore is running for Attorney General Jeff Sessions' old Senate seat, currently occupied by Sen. Luther Strange, R-Alabama. 2497
