SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Video shows a brutal fight outside a Pacific Beach bar and restaurant that sent a bouncer to the hospital with critical injuries. The assault happened at about 9:20 p.m. at the Firehouse, 722 Grand Ave., according to San Diego Police. Four men tried to get into the restaurant through a side entrance but the main bouncer told them to use the main door, officers said. One of the men picked up a metal crowd barrier stanchion pole and struck the bouncer over the head, said police. The bouncer suffered a skull fracture and brain bleed. Officers said he is currently in critical but stable condition in the hospital. After the pole strike, the three other men in the group began fighting with security staff members. One of the bouncers suffered a broken nose and the other two had bumps and bruises, police said. The man responsible for the pole attack is described as African-American, in his 30s, 6’0” tall, 250 pounds with a muscular build. He was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With the pandemic prompting San Diegans to wear facial coverings, and practice physical distancing and stringent hand hygiene, flu season's start has been slowed.According to the county's Influenza Watch report published Oct. 21, San Diego County has reported 10 flu cases to date this season, compared to 320 cases at this time last year. Last year's season totaled 20,711 flu cases.The county says no influenza-related deaths have been reported so far this season. The CDC says the flu season in the U.S. typically occurs in the fall and winter, with the season peaking in December and February.County health officials say health precautions due to the coronavirus and an increase in the rate of residents receiving flu vaccinations have kept flu numbers low so far."Influenza activity has been very low so far this season in San Diego County. This may in part be due to the social distancing, hand washing, and mask wearing interventions instituted to reduce the transmission of SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Seasonal influenza vaccinations are being recorded in the San Diego Immunization Registry at a higher rate than at this same point in any previous season, with 637,696 San Diegans immunized through week 42," the county's report said.Week 42 covers case totals up to the week ending Oct. 17.According to the county, 70% of this year's flu cases cover Influenza A, while 30% include Influenza B. 1445

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A splash of color brings life back to Bay Park Elementary. Over the weekend, parents and volunteers joined together to give the school a facelift. The beautification project now has kids excited to come to school. “They were just blown away,” says Emily Auer. “Their face just lit up. They actually touched the walls.”Bay Park Elementary is approaching it’s the 80th anniversary. The school’s beautification team brought together almost 80 volunteers. The project started Friday night until late Sunday afternoon. Volunteers painted the walls and wooden backpack holders. Parents tell 10News one family donated a bunch of small desks with chairs that now sit in the halls. Behr gave the paint for the project. “Such a wonderful group of kids, so positive,” says parent Erica Krystek. “We really wanted that positivity reflected in the hallways.”The Bay Park Elementary Beautification Team plans to do more upgrades in the future. They hope to paint and add new carpet to the school’s auditorium. 1022
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Vandals damaged a park in Sabre Springs Thursday night, dumping sand into toilets and scrawling inappropriate graffiti on the walls. Trash cans were emptied out and piles of wood chips were dumped along the entrance to the South Creek Neighborhood Park. The clogged toilets and sinks caused minor flooding in the bathrooms. Some of the plumbing was also damaged, according to the San Diego Police Department. City crews cleaned up the mess by the afternoon. Police were still searching for the culprits Friday. 537
