MANILA, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- China has donated 1 million yuan (around 144,000 U.S. dollars) to support communities affected by the eruption of Taal volcano, the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines said on Thursday.
"Coupled with the Belt and Road Initiative, the Greater Bay Area development will ensure long-term prospects for Hong Kong's economy," she said, adding that through the two national policies, Hong Kong will enhance its role as a business bridge between the Chinese mainland and the rest of the world.
The ladies included Xu Huijun, widow of Zhu Guangya, a leading scientist in the development of nuclear weapons, Shu Yunyi, widow of Cheng Siwei, a renowned economist, and Wen Jieruo, widow of Xiao Qian, a famous writer and journalist.
The meeting also required the issuing of a regulation regarding timely payments to small and medium-sized enterprises. Governments at all levels must tighten their belts, practice frugality and live within their means. No government-invested project without solid funding will be approved. Irregularities such as implementing projects outside the budget plan, starting construction before getting approval, or asking construction entities to make advance payments, will be seriously dealt with.
The guideline made clear that by 2023, a national standards system for the openness of grassroots government affairs, which covers the entire operation of local governments, will be basically established.
