SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A health executive and the mayor of Poway were clinging to narrow leads Wednesday in their bids to claim open seats on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, while an incumbent was on the verge of being voted out.District 1 board members Greg Cox and District 2's Dianne Jacob are both termed out, meaning the board will have at least two new members.Cox, a Republican, has been in office since 1995, representing the district that includes National City, Chula Vista, Imperial Beach and Coronado, along with 19 communities within the city of San Diego, including Barrio Logan and Sunset Cliffs. SAN DIEGO — NFL quarterback Drew Brees and his wife say a San Diego jeweler lied and falsely represented the value of the jewelry sold to them.That's according to a lawsuit in which Brees and his wife are seeking million in damages and court costs from Vahid Moaradi, the founder of CJ Charles Jewlers, for fraud, a breach of an oral contract, and violations of business professions code.The lawsuit accuses Moradi of making friends with the Breeses and then using his "relationship and position to induce" Brees to rely "on his false representations as to the investment quality and market value" of numerous diamonds, a lawsuit filed in San Diego said.In the lawsuit, Brees says he has spent millions of dollars in business with Moradi, purchasing jewelry as gifts and as investments."In total, [the Brees] invested approximately million in investment quality diamonds recommended by Moradi," the suit states. "The independent appraiser determined the true market value of the diamonds ... was approximately million less than the prices the [Brees] paid."Brees also claims that Moradi "confessed he charged Plaintiffs a substantial markup," in one case charging a 550 percent markup. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 28-year-old man was behind bars Friday on suspicion of stabbing his girlfriend multiple times inside a Colina Del Sol apartment, police said.Dispatchers received multiple calls shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday from neighbors who reported hearing screaming coming from one of the apartments in a complex on 49th Street just south of El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego police Officer Tony Martinez said.Officers responding to the scene found that a woman had been stabbed multiple times and the suspect had fled, Martinez said.The victim, whose age was not immediately available, was taken to a hospital for treatment of her wounds, which were not believed to be life- threatening, the officer said.Around 10:35 p.m. Thursday, the suspect apparently called 911 and told a dispatcher his location, and that he was going to surrender, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.The 28-year-old man, whose name was not immediately available, was taken into custody around 10:45 p.m. on El Cajon Boulevard near El Cerrito Drive, Martinez said. 1053

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 38-year-old man was stabbed Wednesday morning after confronting a man he saw attempting to break into cars in a Rancho Bernardo parking lot, police said.It happened shortly before 2:10 a.m. near the intersection of Fairlie Road and Bernardo Center Drive, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said.The 38-year-old man saw a man trying door handles of cars in a parking lot in the area and confronted him, Heims said.They got into an argument before the suspect ran away and the victim chased him, the officer said.The victim caught up to the man and they got into a fight, during which the victim was stabbed at least once, Heims said, adding that the man was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.After the fight, the assailant was last seen running southbound on Bernardo Center Drive.The suspect was described as a 5-foot-10 white man who weighs between 140 and 160 pounds. SAN DIEGO (AP) — A military judge on Friday refused to dismiss the murder case of a decorated Navy SEAL, but found the prosecution's meddling in defense lawyer emails troubling enough to reduce the maximum penalty he faces.Capt. Aaron Rugh said an effort to track emails sent to lawyers for Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher violated constitutional rights against illegal searches and the right to counsel by interfering with attorney-client privilege."It hampered the defense's opportunity to prepare for trial as they became necessarily enmeshed in discovery and litigation related to the operation, thereby harming the accused's right to competent counsel," Rugh said.RELATED: Judge refuses to toss war crimes case over misconduct claimsThe action also harmed the public's view of the military justice system and cast doubt on Gallagher's ability to give a fair trial, Rugh said.The ruling was the latest rebuke in one of the Navy's most prominent war crimes cases and came just days after the judge removed the lead prosecutor as the defense sought dismissal of the case for alleged misconduct in what they characterized as "spying."Rugh found the intrusion "placed an intolerable strain on the public's perception of the military justice system."RELATED: New date set for Navy SEAL murder trial"Applying its broad discretion in crafting a remedy to remove the taint of unlawful command influence," Rugh said he would remove the maximum penalty of life imprisonment without parole if Gallagher is convicted of premeditated murder.
