Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government's top infectious disease expert, said during a Senate hearing Tuesday that he was "very disturbed" by the recent spike in COVID-19 cases and said it's conceivable that the U.S. could see as many as 100,000 new infections a day should trends continue."We are now having 40,000+ new cases a day," Fauci said. Those criteria include a downward trajectory of documented cases within a 14-day period and a downward trajectory of positive tests as a percent of total tests within a 14-day period.Fauci's comments came during a Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP).Among the other health experts who attended the hearing were CDC Director Robert Redfield, FDA Director Stephen Hahn and Assistant Secretary for Health Adm. Currently, the agency's COVID-19 Associated Hospitalization Surveillance Network currently reports that for every 200,000 children aged 5-17, about 1 is sent to the hospital every week. The network doesn't monitor hospitals in Missouri, but if those statistics hold true, between four and five public school students in pre-K through high school would be hospitalized in the state each week. (KGTV) — An East County restaurant hit hard by the pandemic has been hit by thieves, twice in a three-day span.Like so many other restaurants, the pandemic has not been kind to Hacienda Casa Blanca Mexican Restaurant and Cantina in El Cajon."Definitely not easy. It's been crazy with new changes every day," said co-owner Cindy Gomez.Gomez says the restaurant has received a federal PPP loan, but revenues are down about 30% to 40% since March."From the first day, we've been trying to keep our staff working .. Haven't had to lay off anyone," said Gomez.Gomez says they had to spend extra when COVID-19 restrictions led them to set up for dining in the parking lot. That extra money spent vanished overnight during a weekend a few weeks ago. Two large canopies and two umbrellas were stolen.A few days later, there was another theft. This time, an umbrella, table, chairs, and a plant disappeared."Take a lot to get angry, but I got angry. Then it went to total frustration," said Gomez.Eventually, the items from the second theft were recovered outside a nearby building. DULZURA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three fires burned in rural East County Wednesday afternoon as Cal Fire worked to extinguish the flames. According to Cal Fire, all three of the fires sparked in the community of Dulzura along Highway 94 between Otay Lakes Road and Freezer Road. Video of the blaze shows traffic in the area backed up for several miles after crews closed Highway 94 between Otay Lakes Road and Barrett Lake Road. Around 5:30 p.m., Cal Fire said crews were able to stop the forward rate of spread of all three fires. In total, all three fires burned slightly less than 32 acres. Sky10 was live over the fire. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top expert on infectious diseases, said Tuesday that he believes that it's "unlikely" that a viable COVID-19 vaccine will be available before the Nov. 3 general election.Fauci's comments contradict those of President Donald Trump, who implied Monday that a vaccine could be ready by October.During a health forum with Research!America, Fauci said that while it's not impossible for a vaccine to be safely granted Emergency Use Authorization within the next two months, he doesn't think one will be made available until the end of the year.Fauci noted that there are three vaccine candidates currently in the midst of the final phase of testing.
