SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An apologetic teenage girl explained how she crashed her mother’s car into her neighbor’s garage in Encanto Friday.13-year-old Akasha Alexander had been taught how to start the BMW in the morning to help her mother. On Friday, the car was parked a big too close to the edge of a steep hill.The girl pulled the clutch and the car took off, crashing through the neighbor’s fence, clipping a water line, and ending up in the garage.“I see the fence go down and i'm like, oh no, and then all I see is boom,” said Alexander.Neighbor Melvin Glover’s daughter and grandchildren are visiting him for Easter. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Albertsons Companies confirmed Saturday an employee of an Escondido grocery store tested positive for COVID-19.The company said the store will remain open, and "will continue to follow an enhanced cleaning and disinfection process in every department."Public Affairs Director Melissa Hill said that the employee is receiving care and has not worked at the store since March 24. Hill said the Escondido store has been through multiple sanitizing and disinfecting cycles, and used third-party expert service.Hill said the store is monitoring other staff for symptoms."Following CDC guidelines, our Crisis Response Team may recommend that additional members of the store team self-quarantine. These employees will be eligible to receive up to 14 days of quarantine pay," said Hill.The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 135 President Todd Walters said they have been working with companies to get higher safety measures into the workplaces of members.He said three members of the union tested positive as of Saturday. He said they were all at different locations in San Diego County."We're encouraging and asking the members to 1. Make sure they get their social distance. 2. We want them to get time every 30 minutes to stop, wash their hands and clean their work stations," he said.Walters said Plexiglas has been installed at check out stands to protect workers at Albertsons and Vons, and next week Ralphs and Food For Less will see the same installation.He said employees are tired from the long shifts and urged the public to realize supplies aren't going anywhere. "Please don't shop unless you have to, there's no need to horde. If you see these retail workers, not just grocery, but our drug store members, or other retail entities, give them space. If they're trying to work and you need something, call out to them. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An 18-month-old toddler ingested marijuana at a home in San Ysidro, San Diego Police said.Officers said a nurse at Sharp Chula Vista called them Sunday about 5:30 p.m. about the incident.The child ingested the pot at a home on Beyer Blvd and was taken to Rady Children's Hospital, the nurse said.San Diego Police said child abuse investigators are looking into the matter. 399

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A University City woman is searching desperately for what she says is worthless to a thief, but priceless to her.Cassie Moua's wedding outfit, which her grandmother made for her over 15 years, was stolen out of the trunk of her husband's car the week after her wedding. "It's been sitting in a closet for 15 years, waiting for the day I get married," Cassie said. "I get married and a week later, it's gone."Cassie married David Lawrence on Feb. 29 at her father's house in Scripps Ranch. She wore a traditional Hmong wedding outfit, including a black jacket with embroidery, a black apron with embroidery, and a white skirt with a pink belt. That dress, however, is now in the hands of a thief. Sometime during the night of Friday, March 6, a thief got into David's car, stealing the suitcase from the trunk with the wedding outfit inside. Cassie says there were no signs of forcible entry and she believes the thief may have used a device to spoof the remote and unlock the car. It was parked in the lot of their apartment complex, near the corner of Nobel and Cargill Avenue in North University City.Cassie says she went to the car on Saturday morning to go grocery shopping, and saw the hood popped, trunk opened, glove compartment ajar, and items spread out all over the seats. She says she does not care about other stolen items like a pet transporter and tire chains stolen, but is now on a mission to get the outfit back. "Since it happened, I've been driving around the neighborhood, looking in little pockets and corners, hoping to see abandoned clothes or an abandoned suitcase," she said. Cassie has since posted more than 20 fliers in the area around her complex. She hopes to get the outfit back to keep as a family heirloom, and that if the thief has a change of heart - no questions asked. San Diego Police say there is no suspect identified. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - After 20 months of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainment, a Congolese father fighting for political asylum has reunited with his family. The newly paroled father went to a church service in San Diego with his family for the first time since 2017."Constantin has been reunited with his family," Pastor Colin Mathewson of St. Luke's Episcopal Church said. Sunday was Constantin Bakala's first time at church with his family since his parole. In 2017, the former computer engineer took his family and escaped from the Republic of Congo after he said they received multiple death threats by the new government. They somehow made it to San Ysidro to seek political asylum. But there, the family was separated and Bakala was held alone at four different ICE detention facilities on the East Coast. Meanwhile, while his wife Annie and seven children were released in San Diego. Through a French translator, Bakala spoke to 10News."Because of the distance between my detention and family, communication was very difficult," Bakala said. The family's only form of communication was the phone. For months, the Bakalas and their friends fought for reunification. 10News was there as they rallied at an ICE office in downtown San Diego and at church events. Earlier this year, Bakala's first parole request was denied. Five lawyers, 30 volunteers, and 20 months later, Bakala was granted parole. On Aug. 19, 2019, Bakala arrived at San Diego International Airport with a single duffel bag."[It was] pure joy when I hugged and kissed them," Bakala said. His eldest daughter, Marie Louise, could not contain her joy."I am really grateful to God and to all those people who are helping me and my family to be together," Marie Louise Bakala said. She previously told 10News that all she wanted was for her father to be there when she celebrated her 18th birthday. Her wish came true."I'm just really happy because my birthday will be next month, and my dad is here!"The Bakalas' journey, however, is not over. As Bakala adjusts to his new life as a parolee, the family awaits their trial. But now, they have each other.Constantin, Annie, Marie Louise, Emmanuel, Daniel, David, Augustine, Moises, and Joseph are together at last.In his broken English, Bakala told 10News: "I thank everybody who are before me to understand the condition from where I am coming."Constantin Bakala's case has been moved to California.
