SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two people were arrested on suspicion of vandalizing a school in the College East area late Thursday night.At around 11 p.m., San Diego police were called to Harriet Tubman School on 6880 Mohawk St. in response to two people seen on the campus.When officers arrived, the two people ran away. Following a brief foot chase, police caught the pair and took them into custody.Police said officers discovered a classroom with a window that was smashed, a vandalized TV screen inside a room and graffiti.Officers also found fireworks they believe the two people planned to set off. 603

San Diego (KGTV)- After receiving a failing grade by the American Lung Association, the County of San Diego is rolling out some new tools to fight air pollution. In port-side communities like Sherman Heights, Logan Heights and Barrio Logan, the rates for Asthma are the highest in the state. This morning county leaders unveiled its new innovative monitors and cars. “This has never been done before,” says Aclima’s Chief Scientist, Melissa Lunden. For the past three months, two air quality cars have been driven around the county for 24 hours at a time collecting samples of air pollutants. “You get a map, a street by street map, of what the air pollution is and what the air pollutants are on those particular streets,” says Lunden. “That allows you to really locate in that region an area of concern.”Stationary monitors will also be set up in areas like Barrio Logan, Sherman Heights, and Logan Heights. Officials will be able to monitor what’s being inhaled by the people who live in these communities. “What we expect to happen is we’re going to find elevated levels of pollution at the street level that we didn’t see with our regional monitors,” says Assistant Director of the Air Pollution Control District, John Adams. With each monitor, the air is pulled into an inlet over 24 hours. The filter is then taken out and tested in a lab. The Air Pollution Control District has already placed monitors along Interstate 15 in Carmel Mountain and Interstate 5 in San Isidro. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- As elections are quickly approaching, a San Diego man is expressing concerns after discovering what appeared to be undelivered mail ballots and voter guides in City Heights.“I was out walking the dogs, and I found this stack of voter ballots; it was mixed in with ballot envelopes and voter guides,” said Jeremy Alaynick. “Just kept finding them the more I walked.”He sent ABC10News pictures that appeared to show a combination of approximately two dozen unvoted ballots and sample ballot/voter information pamphlets.Alaynick, a professional dog walker, said he did not report the incident immediately because he was walking dogs for a client.“I would have picked them all up and taken them to the post office, but I’m thinking about the dogs, and that just wasn’t running through my mind at that moment,” he said.He was working to report the incident Wednesday.Registrar of Voters, Michael Vu, tells ABC 10News, situations like this are uncommon, and investigations are launched as soon as his office is aware.“What we generally do is we touch base with the US Postal Service. It would have been great to receive this information at the time rather than a week later, particularly for those respective voters but also for us to be able to manage it,” he said.Vu said if voters have concerns or haven’t received their ballots by mail, options are available.“We are tracking every single one of these ballots, so when a voter says they have not received their mail ballot, we have the ability to suspend that ballot and reissue them another one,” he said. “If there are voted mail ballots that come back to our office, we compare the signature off of the envelope against the signature on file.
