SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Psychiatrist Clark Smith, MD, shed light on the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s findings in Trevor Heitmann’s autopsy that revealed the 18-year old suffered from mania.Heitmann caused the fiery 805 crash on August 23 that ended not only his own life but the lives of Aileen, 43, and Aryana Pizarro, 12.The Medical Examiner’s report showed Heitmann died of blunt force injuries. Toxicology reports indicated there were no signs of drugs or alcohol in Heitmann’s system. So what led an otherwise healthy 18-year-old man to drive the wrong way at 100 mph? The Medical Examiner believed there was a long build-up to the crash. The reports stated, five days before the crash, Heitmann began showing signs of mania."The manic mood swing could be so powerful, that people lose contact with reality,” Dr. Smith said.Dr. Smith reviewed the autopsy reports with 10News. Although Heitmann had no history of depression or mental illness, Dr. Smith believed he might have been bipolar with manic tendencies. "The mood swing can change like that from being king of the world, on top of everything, to crashing, and being horribly depressed and suicidal,” Dr. Smith said. “My guess is he was feeling badly because of the setbacks that he had, losing his business and source of income. And that would be a time when he would be reactive and become more depressed.”Heitmann was a popular YouTube gamer with a successful business selling game pieces online. That was how he said he bought his high-end sports car. But earlier this year, his business was suddenly banned and shut down. The Medical Examiner said his parents noticed his mood changes and tried to get him help. They physically blocked his McLaren from leaving the driveway, and called authorities to report his behavior. But Dr. Smith believes at that point, Heitmann’s symptoms had progressed too far. “Most people who are suicidal, just take their own life, but some people are also homicidal,” Dr. Smith said. “And in this case, it's a murder-suicide. I think he had lethal intention. He didn't know who he was going to kill. But he knew he was going to kill someone."Dr. Smith said this was a true tragedy that was preventable. “This was treatable, and it’s just a heartbreak that he didn’t get treatment,” Dr. Smith said. He added bipolar manic depression is nothing to be ashamed of. She's living with cerebal palsy which has kept her in a wheelchair. But, it's not holding her back. "When people look at me. It's been really hard, but I overcome that. You can do anything, I tell people you can do anything in the world," said Solis.Solid has worked in the security field and wants to move onto bigger opportunities so she decided to attend this job fair.Charlene Autolino is the chair of San Diego Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, which put the fair together. She said the event gives many more than just a job, but motivation to strive for more."Imagine being told for years that you can't do anything because of this disability, or you aren't capable of able which is not true," said Autolino.The organizer of this event will also be hosting a similar job fair specifically for veterans in November. 1031

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Friday, San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit held a press conference to address the controversy surrounding the recent “awards for arrests” program email. It was the chief’s first press conference on a department matter since taking the seat two weeks ago. He announced that a formal investigation had been launched to figure out how the program details were sent out to officers without getting prior approval from supervisors. 10News broke the story earlier this week, after a San Diego police officer approached Team 10 to share information about a program email he found “unethical”. The email was sent last Friday from a sergeant to more than 90 officers in SDPD’s Southern Division. It outlined a new voluntary program offering points to officers who make more drug arrests and give out more drug citations. The highest point-earners would have the opportunity to work in specialized units for up to a month. “Let me make this very clear. San Diego Police Department doesn't have a quota system,” said Nisleit on Friday. “I can tell you right now [that] this program was never authorized, nor was it ever implemented and nor did anybody ever receive any rewards for making arrest,” he added, along with, “This program was never intended to target anyone from a specific group, race or socio-economic class.” However, the timeline would suggest that the program was briefly implemented. The email was released last Friday morning. The chief says he stopped the program last Saturday. An official retraction email was sent Monday afternoon.  Chief Nisleit told reporters he reviewed the number of arrests in the Southern Division and they have not spiked, suggesting officers were not participating in any incentive program. The original email sent by the sergeant reads in part, “there are similar programs going on in other divisions.” The chief told reporters he has no knowledge of any other point system program taking place anywhere else in the department. Any disciplinary action for the email and program are contingent upon the results of the investigation. 2156

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Portions of San Diego County are gearing up for more dry, windy weather as a red flag warning and potential power outages loom.According to the National Weather Service, the warning goes into effect from 4 a.m. Monday through 10 p.m. Tuesday for the mountains and valleys.The agency says east winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour are expected, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour and isolated gusts up to 60 miles per hour.RELATED: Check your local forecastHumidity will also be low, with values around 10%, the agency said Sunday.“Any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor burning should be avoided,” the National Weather Service said.SDG&E warned customers to prepare for the red flag warning, adding that it has alerted about 50,483 customers that they could be without power starting Monday night and lasting until Wednesday, depending on the severity of winds."Our crews remain on high alert and stand prepared to respond as needed to the next round of Santa Ana winds expected to impact our region. With our customers just now recovering from disruptive Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) due to the last Red Flag Warning, we hope Mother Nature will be kind to our region in the coming days and weather conditions improve," the company said.SDG&E customers in several areas of the county already endured outages last week after the first round of high winds.
