BEIJING, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Serbian President Boris Tadic on Thursday pledged to promote economic and trade ties with China, welcoming Chinese investment. Serbia wanted to maintain high-level political ties with China and enhance economic exchanges and cooperation, said Tadic at a business forum held by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). Chinese President Hu Jintao (L) welcomes visiting Serbian President Boris Tadic in Beijing, capital of China, on Aug. 20, 2009Serbia has signed free trade agreements with the European Union, Russia, Belarus, Turkey and the eight countries of South Eastern Europe (SEE), giving Serbia access to a free trade market covering 800 million people, he said. "The security of foreign investments is guaranteed by the Serbian government," Tadic said. Chinese telecommunications equipment providers Huawei and ZTE were among the foreign investment successes, he said. Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Mladjan Dinkic briefed Chinese companies on Serbia's transport facilities, tax and preferential policies for companies in the information, telecommunications and electronics sectors. "Serbia has noticed the exponential growth and the export potential of Chinese high-tech companies, and especially welcomes Chinese investments from areas of telecommunication, electronic and automobile industries," Dinkic said. China-Serbia trade volume surged from 9 million U.S. dollars in 1994 to 460 million U.S. dollars last year, said Dong Songgen, vice chairman of the CCPIT. The participants at the forum were mainly Chinese industries in the energy, construction, finance, medicine, consulting, agriculture and textiles sectors. Tadic arrived in Beijing early Wednesday for a week-long state visit as a guest of President Hu Jintao. It is the first official visit by a Serbian head of state since Serbia became an independent state in 2006.
BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC)Central Committee Saturday congratulated the Kuomintang (KMT) plenary congress, expecting deepening trust, more exchanges and common understanding across the Taiwan Strait. The KMT held its 18th plenary congress Saturday morning, at which Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou officially assumed the position of KMT chairman. In a statement to the KMT Central Committee and Ma Ying-jeou, the CPC Central Committee expected the two parties to stick to the"common wish for peaceful cross-Strait development". With the 1992 Consensus and opposing "Taiwan independence" as the political foundation, the two parties should deepen mutual trust, increase exchanges and expand common understanding, the statement said. In response to the CPC statement, the KMT Central Committee said in a reply that the two parties have reached a common understanding to promote cross-Strait peaceful development. The KMT expected to work with the CPC for improving trust and mutual benefits, in a bid to improve the welfare of people on both sides, the statement said. Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, congratulated Lien Chan for maintaining the position of KMT honorary chairman and Wu Poh-hsiung for taking the position of KMT honorary chairman respectively. The "common wish for peaceful cross-Strait development," reached by the two parties during Lien's 2005 visit to the mainland, has set a clear direction and laid the foundation for cross-Strait relations, Hu said in a statement to Lien. "We sincerely expect Mr. Lien to continue working for the peaceful development across the Strait," he said. In response to Hu's congratulation, Lien said in a statement that since the two sides resumed systematic talks based on the 1992 Consensus, the peace and stability across the Strait has been greatly enhanced and people's welfare improved. "We should work even harder to strengthen the five-point common wishes," Lien said. As the KMT chairman in the past two years, Wu had made great contribution to improving cross-Strait relations, Hu said in a statement to Wu. Last year and this May, Wu visited the mainland twice for the KMT-CPC talks, which laid solid foundations for favorable exchanges between the two sides, he said. "We expected Mr. Wu to make new contributions to cross-Strait peaceful development." In a reply to Hu, Wu said in the past four years, the two parties pushed forward their cooperation step by step and won support from the people and the international society. "The two parties should work together for peace and development with sincerity and goodwill," he said. As honorary chairmen, Lien and Wu will assist Ma on cross-Strait affairs and regional exchanges.

BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) -- China will unremittingly pursue the path of peaceful development and its military will enhance cooperation with foreign armed forces in order to contribute to common development, said Defense Minister Liang Guanglie Friday"China will develop friendly cooperation with all the countries in line with the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence to make new contributions to building a harmonious world of lasting peace and common prosperity," said Liang at a reception at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to mark the 82nd anniversary of the establishment of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). "Peace and development remain themes of the times, yet the world is not peaceful," said Liang, who is also a member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and a state councilor. China's military would enhance exchanges and deepen cooperation with foreign armed forces to fulfil its international obligations and responsibilities, said Liang. Liang said "positive changes" in the situation across the Taiwan Straits had helped curb "Taiwan independence" forces, and the two sides have expanded and deepened exchanges and cooperation in fields of economy and culture, among others. A reception is held to mark the PLA's 82nd founding anniversary in Beijing, capital of China, July 31, 2009 "We will firmly hold the theme of the cross-Straits peaceful development, adhere to the one-China policy, oppose the secessionist activities of 'Taiwan independence' forces and firmly safeguard China's sovereignty and territorial integrity to continue to make due efforts for peaceful development of cross-Straits relationship," said Liang. In August 1927, the CPC armed forces led an uprising against warlords, which is regarded as the founding day of the services. BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- China resolutely opposes U.S. move to start anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations into seamless steel pipes imported from China, the Ministry of Commerce(MOC) said. The current hardships facing the U.S. steel industry was because consumption and demand waned after the financial crisis. "Blindly blaming Chinese imports of dumping or subsidies is lack of factual bases, which China strongly opposes," MOC announced in a statement on its website Saturday. The statement came after U.S. Department of Commerce said Wednesday that it had initiated anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations at the request of the U.S. Steel Corporation, V&M Star LP, TMK IPSCO and the United Steelworkers (USW). The U.S. petitioners requested a 98.37-percent anti-dumping duty against the Chinese imports and additional countervailing duties to offset what they allege are Chinese government subsidies. The case was the seventh such investigations this year launched by the U.S. Department of Commerce against Chinese imports that included claims of both dumping and subsidies, MOC said. Resorting to trade protectionism would not solve the real problem, instead it would hurt the interests of U.S. downstream steel businesses as well as bilateral trade, it said.
