CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) say they have developed a new pill that can orally deliver insulin and other drugs that usually have to be injected. Many drugs can’t currently be taken orally because they are broken down in the gastrointestinal tract before they can take effect. One example is insulin, which diabetes patients have to inject daily or more frequently. The 433

Argentina's energy secretary said he does not believe a cyberattack caused a massive power outage that left tens of millions of people in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay in darkness for several hours on Sunday."At this moment we do not rule out any possibilities but ... a cyberattack is not within the preliminary alternatives being considered," Gustavo Lopetegui told reporters on Sunday.Argentina's President Mauricio Macri called the power outage, which also affected parts of Chile and southern Brazil, "unprecedented" and announced an official investigation into the cause. As of now, no explanation for the widespread power failure has been identified. The blackout comes as 692

By several accounts, security was present and conspicuous at the Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California, over the weekend. The Gilroy Police Department had a "compound" on site, the police chief said. Patrons at the family-friendly food festival reported seeing officers on horses and motorcycles.Yet, a 19-year-old, identified by police as Santino William Legan, was able to cut through a back fence and begin shooting people at random. The mayhem Sunday left three people dead and at least 12 injured. It also put a spotlight on soft targets, places like festivals, schools and churches where people often think they can let their guard down and live freely and safely. Another shooting at a festival in New York Saturday that left one dead and 11 injured also emphasized the precariousness of such spaces.Law enforcement experts say that despite heavier security at festivals, schools and churches, there's really little that can be done to prevent attacks from happening."No one would associate the Garlic Festival with an attractive target," said James Gagliano, a CNN law enforcement analyst and retired FBI supervisory agent.Patrons offer different views of festival securityPolice were present all three days of the festival, Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee told reporters Monday."We actually create a police compound where we have a command center, a booking area, you know, all the things you would need to run a major operation like this," Smithee said. "The officers are deployed throughout the park and they're assigned to different regions of the park so they're spread out, we don't have officers all in one spot."Christian Swain, whose band 1667

At least 25 people have died in a suspected arson attack at a renowned animation studio in the Japanese city of Kyoto on Thursday, according to police. The death toll at the Kyoto Animation Co. building is expected to rise and the city's fire department said that 36 people were injured in the blaze, some critically.A Kyoto prefectural police spokesperson said a 41-year-old man suspected of carrying out the attack also had a backpack containing several knives. The suspect poured what appeared to be gasoline around the studio and set it on fire. The suspect is currently in hospital with serious burn injuries and police do not expect to be able to question him on Thursday. The fire broke out at about 10:30 a.m. local time on Thursday (9:30 p.m. ET) in the company's 1st Studio building in Kyoto's Fushimi-ku district. Police said a resident reported hearing a sound like an explosion coming from the studio.About 48 fire engines have been dispatched to the area and are currently trying to get the fire under control.Footage from the scene shows thick smoke billowing out of the four-story building, which is located in a residential area several kilometers south of Kyoto Station, as firefighters worked to douse the flames.Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe 1276
