SAN DIEGO — Police are investigating multiple shootings that erupted in downtown San Diego Monday night.The gunfire was reported around 11 p.m. at several locations in the East Village neighborhood, about three blocks east of Petco Park's tailgate parking lot.A crew for Scripps station KGTV in San Diego was at the scene of one shooting at 15th Street and Island Avenue where several victims were being loaded into ambulances. Two other people suffering gunshot wounds were located near Market Street.No further information about the victims is available at this time.A witness told KGTV that he heard about a dozen gunshots coming from different locations and two vehicles speeding from the scene.It is unknown at this time if there are any other victims. San Diego Police Department Gang units are also on scene.The shooting happened not long after the San Diego Padres wrapped up their game against the Washington Nationals at Petco Park. 1015

SAN DIEGO — SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A life science development firm has unveiled plans to transform eight acres along San Diego's waterfront into a mixed-use hub that could attract numerous leading edge companies to the city.Development firm IQHQ announced Monday that it closed on the site along Harbor Drive and will break ground on the project's first phase this week. The firm says it has entitlements and key permits for new office, lab and support retail space for the complex, called the San Diego Research and Development District, or RaDD. In a news release, the firm said this would be the largest urban commercial waterfront site along the Pacific Coast. The development is sure to bolster an already vibrant life sciences industry in San Diego, with biotechs clustered mostly in the Torrey Pines area. This could attract more to relocate downtown. The project would be the third major commercial development in downtown, along with the Padres plan to build office space at Tailgate Park, and the redevelopment of Horton Plaza into a tech hub."This is probably, in terms of the commercial sector, the most important pivotal moment in San Diego's modern redevelopment history," said Gary London, of commercial real estate consulting firm London Moeder Advisors.IQHQ chief executive Stephen Rosetta told ABC-10News this was the premier site to build on the west coast, if not the entire USA. "This project is really special to us because we're headquartered here in San Diego, and the partners live locally and have for most of our lives," he siad. SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Prosecutors said Monday that a California man killed his business partner and his family out of greed, according to the Associated Press. Prosecutor Sean Daugherty told jurors that Charles Ray Merritt wrote checks totaling more than ,000 on his partner’s QuickBooks account after the family disappeared. The comments came during opening statements in the trial for the alleged murders of Joseph McStay, Summer McStay and their three and four-year-old sons. Prosecutors also say that, while being questioned about the family’s disappearance just days after they went missing, Merritt kept referring to Joseph in the past tense.Outside the courtroom, defense attorney Rajan Maline said Merritt’s livelihood depended on McStay being alive. The McStays disappeared from their Fallbrook home in early February 2010. Days after they were last seen, the family’s SUV was found abandoned at a strip mall parking lot in San Ysidro.RELATED: Trial set to begin in McStay family murder caseIn 2013, the bodies of the family members were found in the Mojave Desert, near Victorville. Prosecutors said the family died from blunt-force trauma to their heads. Merritt was arrested in connection with the killings in November 2014 after sufficient evidence linking him to the case, including DNA, was discovered.Authorities alleged Merritt killed the family members inside their home and then buried them in the desert.
