SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a suspect they say hit a man with his car before leaving the scene in North Park. According to police, the suspect was driving without his headlights on near the 3800 block of 30th Street around 1:30 a.m.After the victim yelled at the suspect for not having his lights on, the two got into an argument before the victim walked away.When the victim was crossing 30th Street, police say the suspect hit the 30-year-old man with his car.The man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.Police located the vehicle used in the incident on the 4000 block of Meade Avenue, but the suspect wasn’t inside. 674

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One of San Diego's most iconic buildings is getting an upgrade for the city's 250th-anniversary celebration.The Junipero Serra Museum will have 0,000 worth of renovations done this summer. The work will focus mainly on the exterior, repairing cracked and deteriorating stucco on the walls and adding a fresh coat of paint."We needed to move forward and return this building to the way it looked in 1929 because it is an important icon to the San Diego Region," says San Diego History Center CEO Bill Lawrence."It will gleam just like it did in 1929 when 40,000 people came to this spot for the dedication."The museum was established 90 years ago on the spot believed to be where Junipero Serra set up Mission San Diego, the first European settlement in California, in 1769. Archaeological research now shows the museum is about 100 yards away from the original site.It's been more than a decade since any structural work was done on the building. New roof tiles were added in 2008.The History Center raised 0,000 from the board and other donors to get work started on the West side of the building. They're hoping the City and County can help them fund the remaining 0,000 to complete work on the East side and the North Tower.In addition to the exterior work, the museum will unveil a new welcoming exhibit. "But humans have been living here for 12,000 years."The new exhibit will feature the stories of the Kumeyaay Nation and their contributions to San Diego before Serra arrived. Zarpour says it's essential to include that story to get the full breadth of San Diego History."This is a very layered, complex site," she says. "It means different things to different people. So we want to bring all of that to light.""Understanding all of the aspects, the good history, the bad history, is part of the process of bringing to light the complexity, the richness and what we as a community need to understand," says Lawrence.Part of the restoration also includes building a fourth flag pole on the grounds. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- On January 1, it will be legal for businesses to sell pot in California. With that, the questions and concerns about what that means for drivers out on the roads.“I think we will see an increase in DUI marijuana’s,” said Officer John Perdue, a San Diego Police officer in the traffic division.Perdue is an expert at DUI and drug recognition. Since November 8, 2016, when California voters approved Prop. 64, or the adult use of marijuana act, he’s been hearing the same thing when he comes across drivers he suspects are driving high.“Their first reaction is one of two, either A. ‘I have a medical marijuana card’, or B. ‘marijuana is legal.’ And I have to remind them, so is alcohol, but you still can’t drive under the influence of it,” Perdue said.How exactly will police be able to tell if someone is driving high?One tool that officers will use to help is the Drager Drugtest 5000, a presumptive drug screening test that can detect seven types of drugs in a person’s system.Like an alcohol breathalyzer, Perdue said, “the person has every right to refuse this.” But unlike alcohol, it doesn’t have a percent limit.If the Drager reads positive, Perdue said, “it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re impaired or under the influence, it just says that chemical or drug is in their body.”  So to be arrested for DUI, it’s still up to the officer to decide if the driver shows impairment.But that can be tough. Look at the Drager as an extra tool that’s used along with field sobriety tests, what an officer smells, sees or finds in the car, to formulate that officer’s opinion of whether a driver is high.“The hardest thing will be, because there is no per se limit right now, the officers are really going to have to be aware of the signs and symptoms,” Perdue said. 1808

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are asking for the public’s help identifying several suspects they say robbed a man before threatening him with a gun.The robbery happened on August 11 around 5:24 p.m. near the Forever 21 at Fashion Valley Mall.Police say the two suspects approached a 27-year-old and asked to use his iPhone before grabbing it and running away.When the victim ran after both men, the second suspect pulled a gun out of his waistband and told the victim he “did not want any of this.”RELATED: 0,000 stolen cello returned to ownerFearing he would be shot, the victim stopped chasing the suspects, who were last seen running toward Friars Road.
