In many ways, we have come a long way since March when the pandemic first began, but in other ways, we have not.Infections and hospitalizations around the country from COVID-19 are rising quickly, as the United States just surpassed 250,000 deaths from COVID-19. The country is also setting records for the number of positive coronavirus cases. It has forced states to consider similar shutdown measures to the ones we saw in spring.Michigan, Washington state, Oregon, and New Mexico are mostly closed, as states like Colorado have recently announced more closures coming this weekend, including moving restaurants to take-out and delivery only.“It has been very busy [in the ICU] and it has really, as you mentioned, gone up in the last two weeks,” said Dr. Julia Limes of UCHealth in Colorado.Dr. Limes has been spending the last few weeks working out logistics for the ICU at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center.“We have started deploying people from other parts in the hospital to come and help us on both the COVID floors and in the COVID ICU,” said Dr. Limes.“We already surpassed the numbers from the first surge, so it’s like what’s next?” added Maddie Smith, a critical care nurse in the hospital’s COVID-19 ICU.Smith has worked in the hospital’s COVID-19 ICU since March. She says the fear, stress, and unpredictability of this current surge might have consumed her once more if it was not for the lessons learned in the COVID-19 unit during the spring months.“We just know how to treat them better, and we know how to intervene with interventions, so that’s been really helpful,” said Smith. In the spring, hospitals were experimenting with different drugs to treat serious COVID-19 complications. Since then, the FDA has approved Remdesivir as a treatment option for certain patients 12 and older, based on findings that it helped some patients recover faster.Smith says doctors and nurses are now more familiar with the arc of how a patient might respond to symptoms so they can manage bed space and ventilator use better. All this comes as both Moderna and Pfizer announced this week they have both developed vaccines with 95 percent effectiveness.“[Caring for patients] is easier and it’s smoother than it was in the spring,” said Dr. Limes. Not only has patient care gained more clarity, but so too has self-care on the part of first responders, according to Smith.“It was hard,” she said. “I think the biggest part that got to all of us is these people don’t have family to be with. That first surge, it all hit us pretty hard because of the sadness that happened down here. We just kind of lean on each other to get through it.”How far this current wave will go is unknown, but by drawing from the past, these first responders say they will be ready to deal with it no matter what is thrown their way.“We just have a better sense of the trajectory, and that is hugely valuable as we go into this next surge,” said Dr. Limes. 2962

Is this the night someone makes U.S. lottery history?Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing is for a jackpot estimated at .6 billion, which would be the nation's largest-ever.That's the value if the winner or winners select annuity payments. The one-time cash option is estimated at 5 million -- still nothing to sneeze at.The current US lottery jackpot record is .586 billion, won in a Powerball drawing in January 2016.And speaking of Powerball: That game's next drawing is Wednesday, for an estimated jackpot of 0 million. That puts the jackpots for the nation's two largest lotteries at more than .2 billion."It's hard to overstate how exciting this is -- but now it's really getting fun," Gordon Medenica, lead director of the Mega Millions Group and director of Maryland Lottery and Gaming, said over the weekend.Mega Millions has already smashed its own jackpot record, which was 6 million, shared by winners in three states in March 2012. 961

In my opinion, these patriots did nothing wrong. Instead, the FBI & Justice should be investigating the terrorists, anarchists, and agitators of ANTIFA, who run around burning down our Democrat run cities and hurting our people! https://t.co/of6Lna3HMU— Donald J. Instead of planes, trains, automobiles, and hotels, more and more travelers are considering renting an RV for upcoming trips. After all, there is virtually no risk of contracting COVID-19 when you are sleeping and eating in your own home on wheels. But while it appears a great way to travel, you need to know the pros and cons before you rent a camper (that you pull) or motor home (that you drive). It's the vacation rage of 2020, according to Money magazine, which calls RV's "virus friendly," since you drive across the country with your own bedroom and kitchen. But Money says many people end up surprised at the total cost, which can total a lot more than you first think.Know the real costRV rental can range from 0 to 0 per night, similar to a hotel room.Campsites are another to as much as 0 a night, depending on location and amenities.Gas can cost to 0 per day, even with today's low gas prices, as most motor homes get just 5 to 10 miles per gallon.Your auto insurance may not cover the full value of that RV, and your credit card may not cover it at all. That means you may have to pay or more per day for RV insurance.Add it up and you can end up spending 0 - 0 per night, though it is still cheaper than a 0 a night luxury resort. One other downside: many rental RV's are budget models, without all the high-end amenities you see at RV shows. Tour the model first, before you rent.Pull-behind camper or motor home?Campers that you pull tend to rent for less than models you drive. But think twice about a pull-behind camper if you have never towed a vehicle before. You will need an SUV or pickup built for towing, with a tow package that includes brake light hookups. And if you have never towed anything, you could be in for a surprise when you try to back up.A small or mid-size motor home that you drive is usually best for first-timers, experts say.And you have your own COVID-free accommodations, which can be well worth the cost.Bottom line: Campers are a great way to travel safely during the pandemic. Interested? Check a major rental firm like Cruise America. Or rent directly from owners at RV Share.Just know all the costs involved, so you don't waste your money.___________________________Don't Waste Your Money" is a registered trademark of Scripps Media, Inc.
