ISLAMABAD, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's latest visit to Pakistan will further enhance the all-weather strategic relationship between the two countries, Pakistani media said Sunday.Pakistan's media gave extensive coverage to Wen's visit. They made special reports highlighting various aspects of the China-Pakistan friendship and the assistance of both countries extended to each other in disaster management.The strategic partnership will be advanced as a package of agreements were signed during Wen's three-day visit, the official news agency Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported."Chinese support for the youth mobilization, reconstruction plan for flood affected people and strengthening of economic ties are laudable steps which will directly benefit the people of Pakistan," Pakistani federal minister for women development Firdous Ashiq Awan told APP.Wen's visit has opened a new chapter in bilateral ties, she added.China extended full support to Pakistan's sovereignty, security and political integrity besides extending strong support in economic cooperation, Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir was quoted as saying by local newspaper Daily Times.Pakistan and China signed a series of agreements to cement the pragmatic economic and trade cooperation, which will take the bilateral political trust and understanding to a new high, DAWN newspaper reported.Tariq Puri, chief executive of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, told DAWN that there was great scope for consolidating trade between the two countries, adding the current business summit would definitely pave the way for its increasing.The visit of Chinese premier to Pakistan will bolster confidence in facing current challenges, international affairs experts told local media.The visit would send a reassuring signal to Pakistan, which is surrounded by a host of problems, challenges and difficulties. GUANGZHOU, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's southwestern Yunnan and Guizhou provinces agreed Monday to transmit 497 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to the southern Guangdong Province over the next five years.The agreements were signed Monday between the China Southern Power Grid Company (CSG) and the three provinces.Due to a lack of resources such as coal and water, the relatively more developed eastern and southern regions in China face pressure of providing enough electricity to boost their growth."China's coal resources are mainly based in the west and north, while water is also abundant in the southwestern regions. The uneven situation makes it necessary to transmit power from the west to the east," said Qian Zhimin, deputy director of China's National Energy Administration.Qian said China had initiated the west-to-east power transmission program back in 2000. By the end of this year, the CSG has transmitted over 543 billion kilowatt-hours of power through the program.Guangdong, an economic powerhouse in south China, with a gross domestic product exceeding 3.9 trillion yuan (about 583.3 billion U.S. dollars) in 2009, has been the largest beneficiary of the program as almost 120 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity produced in other western provinces is used by Guangdong annually, making up about one-fourth of all the power it uses every year.The CSG is one of China's two major grid operators, along with the State Grid. The CGS invests, builds, and operates power networks in Guangdong, Guizhou, Yunnan and Hainan provinces, and in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

WUHAN, Nov.15 (Xinhua) -- Russia and India Monday reiterated their readiness to coordinate with China as it prepares for the third BRIC Summit and related events in 2011.Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Indian Minister of External Affairs SM Krishna made the statements when they met with Yang Jiechi, Chinese Foreign Minister, on Monday.The ministers expressed their determination to work toward strengthening cooperation within the BRIC group, which was acquiring growing importance.During the meeting, Yang said the three countries could cooperate more in safeguarding security in the Asia-Pacific region.Yang said they should insist on common security, resolve disputes in a peaceful way and work together on non-traditional threats to make further efforts on regional security cooperation.The foreign ministers agreed to push forward trilateral practical cooperation and decided the next trilateral foreign ministers' meeting would be held in Russia in 2011."BRIC" is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India and China.In recent years, the four nations have strengthened dialogue and cooperation, and held frequent exchanges of views on major issues in the international economic and development fields.During the second BRIC Summit in Brazil this year, Chinese President Hu Jintao announced the next BRIC Summit would be held in China in 2011.

BEIJING, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) - China's urbanization would boost domestic demand by 30 trillion yuan (4.5 trillion U.S. dollars) by 2030, an official from a top think tank said Saturday.The country's urbanization expansion promises a huge potential in domestic demand, which will assure a stable economic development for China even if exports decline, Han Jun, vice director with the State Council's Development Research Center (SCDRC), said at a forum, adding that the urban migrants' demand for housing is likely to become the largest driving force for China's economic growth in the future.Additionally, Han noted that the core issue in China's urbanization is to allow farmers-turned-migrant workers to become permanent urban residents.In the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee's Proposal for Formulating the 12th Five-Year Program for China's Economic and Social Development (2011-2015), which was issued last month, authorities stressed that accelerating urbanization would be an important mission during the next five years.Data from the SCDRC indicates that China's urbanization rate hit 46 percent by the end of 2009, and will reach 63.6 percent by 2030, with the urban population standing at 930 million.
