(KGTV and ABC) - A Pittsburgh dad who is working three jobs gave his daughter the dress of her dreams for her eighth-grade dance in a viral video.14-year-old Nevaeha Smith found a dress she loved for her eighth-grade dance at Ringgold Middle School in Monongahela, Pennsylvania, but realized that at 0, it might be too expensive."I said, 'Mom, dad, I want this dress,'" Nevaeha told ABC News. Kelly Anne had her camera ready when Nevaeha stopped by McDonald’s to see her father."I was working at McDonald’s that day and I put the dress in the back," Ricky told ABC News. "She came and I brought it out and told her that her grandmother bought it for her and I told her, 'This ain’t the dress you wanted, but I hope you like it.'""I was thinking, 'This is going to be an old lady dress,'" said Nevaeha.The viral video showed Nevaeha sitting at a table as her father slowly revealed her heart’s desire. Her expression was shocked, followed by tears of joy. Nevaeha leaped out of her seat to hug her father."To see the look on her face it was priceless," said Ricky. "All I can really do was smile."Nevaeha could barely speak as she thanked her father."My heart felt like there was more love in it than there was before," said Nevaeha, describing the big moment. (KGTV) – A California bill co-authored by San Diego-based Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez would limit the use of so-called “less lethal” weapons against protesters.Leslie Furcron said she will never forget the pain she felt May 30 when she was hit in the head with a rubber bullet during a protest in La Mesa."My head was on fire," she remembers, “they should never be shot at somebody's head like they did to me."Furcron joined several other victims of so-called "less lethal" weapons used by law enforcement on protesters throughout the state in recent months, on a call Tuesday to discuss their support for Assembly Bill 66.Victim stories prompted Gonzalez to draft AB 66. It would create the country's first standards for how and when law enforcement agencies can deploy so-called “less lethal” weapons, like rubber bullets and pepper spray.It would also ban the use of tear gas for crowd control and set minimum standards for the weapons’ use by law enforcement; for example, when a person's life is at risk. It would also require data be collected on the use of those weapons and any resulting injuries.Gonzalez also claimed that one of the rubber bullet manufacturers has indicated that firing them at random into crowds goes against their intended use, citing a study in the medical journal BMJ Open.The sentiment was echoed by victims who described serious, and in some cases, potentially lifelong injuries, including loss of eyesight, traumatic brain injury and PTSD.AB 66 passed through a committee in early August and the state Senate is expected to vote on the bill this week. 1595

(KGTV) - In her new book, Elizabeth Smart says the man who kidnapped her also tried to kidnap a girl in El Cajon, California by posing as Mormon and befriending the girl’s family, according to People Magazine.Smart detailed Brian David Mitchell’s alleged plan in When There’s Hope: Healing, Moving Forward, and Never Giving Up. The book includes information about Smart’s abduction in 2002, when she was 14 years old. Smart was held captive by Mitchell and Wanda Barzee for nine months.Before Smart’s kidnapping, Mitchell deliberately went to a Mormon church in East County to find a girl to victimize, Smart wrote. He eventually saw a photo of a girl on a family’s piano, she said.Smart did not indicate which Latter-Day Saints church Mitchell may have attended. The girl's identity was not made public.“That was all it took for him to decide that this young girl would be his next victim,” Smart alleged in the book.Smart wrote that Mitchell met the girl at a family dinner and returned to the riverbed where he, Barzee, and Smart were living. Mitchell planned to return to the home and “rescue” the girl, which Smart wrote actually meant kidnap and rape.Mitchell left the campsite wearing the same dark clothing and carrying the same knife he used to kidnap Smart, she wrote. Smart claimed Mitchell opened the door to the home but heard a man snoring and left.“I know most people consider snoring a health risk or an annoyance,” Smart writes. “But in the case of this young girl, it saved her life.”Smart, now 30 years old, is an author and motivational speaker. She has two children with her husband.The claim is not the first link to the San Diego area. A local woman snapped photos of Smart with her captors in Lakeside back in October of 2002.
