NASHVILLE, Tennessee — A 22-year-old man was killed in a shooting at Opry Mills Mall, which caused chaos for shoppers inside.First responders initially answered a call of an active shooter in the mall, which prompted a heavy police presence, but they learned the call was not accurate once at the scene.The shooting happened inside the mall in a hallway near the Auntie Anne's pretzel shop across from Old Navy around 2:23 p.m. The victim was taken to Skyline Medical Center in critical condition where he later died.According to police officials, a dispute at the mall between two men ended in gunfire. The suspected shooter ran from the mall to a ticketing booth outside. He placed his gun on the booth counter and told the people inside to call 911. He then surrendered to police once they arrived.There was no additional imminent threat known. Both he and the victim are 22 years old and from Nashville.Some Metro Nashville Public Schools were placed on lockout for a short time including Two River’s Middle School, Pennington Elementary School, McGavock Elementary School, Stanford Montessori and Litton Middle School. It has since been lifted.Three students were still at the Academy at Opry Mills when the shooting happened and were able to get out and taken to McGavock High School.Opry Mills Mall spans 1,154,000 square feet with more than 200 stores. It also includes nine sit-down restaurants.Officials said it appeared to have been an ongoing dispute that prompted the shooting. The identities of the victim and suspect have not yet been released.Customers inside the mall were told to stay put and away from the entrances.They said the mall was being swept by officers as a precaution. Police evacuated Bass Pro, Johnny Rockets, the food court and other areas.The Gaylord Opryland Hotel, was placed on lockdown when the shooting occurred, but it has since been lifted. 1974

(KGTV) - Marine Corps Air Station Miramar unleashed the potential of their renewable energy powered grid Tuesday to support San Diego during a heat wave."We've reached a point where we really need to take action to conserve," Jessica Packard, Communications Manager at SDG&E, said. The California Independent System Operator issued a Flex Alert spanning Sunday through Wednesday, which forced SDG&E to begin hour long rotating black outs across the county.Mick Wasco, Installation Energy Manager at MCAS Miramar, said they have a great relationship with SDG&E and heard over the weekend the power grid was at maximum capacity.Wasco said they took action, "although not entirely ready we did whatever we could to get our system online and help support as soon as possible."Wasco said the base has been working on a microgrid for more than a decade. It is powered by three sources: solar, landfill gas in partnership with Fortistar, and a power plant that uses natural gas and diesel, created in partnership with Schneider Electric and Black and Veatch.Wasco said the power plant works smarter, "these are not backup generators, these are generators with the best equipment possible to clean the emissions."The system succeeded Tuesday, eliminating six megawatts of usage from San Diego's grid. That saved about 2,000 homes from going dark."I don't know that everybody knows what we're capable of doing at Miramar and I think the goal is over the next couple years is to demonstrate that," Wasco said.The system has won multiple awards, including the 2019 Secretary of Defense Environmental Award for Sustainability and the Environmental Protection Agency's National Award for Energy in 2015."I think this is only the beginning and we can greatly improve our abilities in the coming years," Wasco said he wants to continue working with businesses and the community to utilize the system the most efficient and beneficial way possible.The system was initially needed to power the base during a disaster. The Navy calls for bases to be able to power themselves for two weeks. MCAS Miramar can power themselves without extra supplies for three weeks.Wasco said if they did get supplies, like diesel, they could potentially power themselves indefinitely. 2280

Motorcycle land speed record holder Valerie Thompson survived a 343-mph crash while attempting to break the overall two-wheel record in Australia on Monday, according to Fox News.According to the report, the 49-year-old Thompson was going for the record at the Lake Gairdner World Speed Trials "when something went wrong during her run and the bike fell onto its side, digging a deep trench into the salt flats and spreading wreckage over a mile."Thompson's "Bub 7" motorcycle reportedly lifted off the ground, with its parachutes eventually allowing it to come to a complete stop. Thompson told Fox News that she's "doing OK" and is headed back to Scottsdale to determine what went wrong.Thompson earned the title of world's fastest female motorcycle racer when she topped out at 304.263 mph at the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials in 2016. More than 5,000 people have signed a Change.org petition calling on the state of Tennessee to replace all statues honoring the Confederacy with statues honoring country music legend and native Tennessean Dolly Parton.Parton, a nine-time Grammy winner and Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, is also known worldwide for her philanthropy efforts. Following wildfires in the Smokey Mountains, Parton donated millions of dollars to help the community's recovery. She's also touched millions of lives through her charitable foundation.The petition, started by Alex Parsons on June 11, has quickly spread online. It's moving in on its initial goal of 7,500 signatures."Let's replace the statues of men who sought to tear this country apart with a monument to the woman who has worked her entire life to bring us closer together," the petition says.In an update, organizers clarified their stance, saying that "while the idea of replacing all of those monuments with Dolly Parton may seem funny, the history of those monuments is anything but."The petition comes as communities across the country hold conversations about systemic racism in the United States amid several high-profile deaths of black men and women at the hands of police in 2020.
