SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A patient at a North Park dental office got upset after she got hit with surprise fee.Two Thursdays ago, Linda Morrow - donning a mask and gloves - went to Pristine Dental Group for a root canal and bone grafting. After the procedure, Morrow, who doesn't have dental insurance, paid cash for the bill. It was in line with the estimate."The total bill was 0. I didn't have change, so I gave them 0 because I only had bills," said Morrow.Morrow says when no one in the office could make change, the receptionist spoke up."She commented, 'Oh, PPE.'" said Morrow.Morrow says her new bill was for 0 dollars, including a charge for personal protective equipment used by the dental staff."That shut my mouth. I was stunned," said Morrow.Confused, Morrow paid the full amount and left."My concept was that it was definitely an afterthought. If I had exactly 0 or my debit card, I would not have had to pay the charge," said Morrow.Morrow posted details of the charge of the Nextdoor app. Quickly, several neighbors responded that they also have paid similar charges at their dentist offices, ranging from to . It's more sophisticated than swiping left or right, and it can help anyone looking for a job or career change.It's called My Next Move. The San Diego Workforce Partnership released it after a yearlong effort. The highlight is a 60-question questionnaire that gauges a job seeker's interests. For each task, a job seeker will choose an option from "strongly disagree" to "strongly agree." Examples include investigating the start of a fire, repairing and replacing locks, or examining blood under a microscope.At the end, the system will provide a list of sectors that the best fit the job seeker, including local retraining programs, salary information, top hiring employers, and open jobs. "Think of it like Match.com for careers," said Sarah Burns, the partnership's director of research application. "Once you get a career match, it says okay, well if you want to take the next step in this relationship, then here's what you do."Burns said the system will give each test-taker a percentage matching their interests to the potential career. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new camera system along the west coast helps firefighters pinpoint wildfires faster. ALERTWildfire has officially launched the first 70 cameras in Southern California including 15 here in San Diego. There are 160 total cameras along the west coast in Washington, Oregon, Nevada and California. UCSD Geosciences Professor Neal Driscoll has worked for two years as the co-developer for ALERTWildfire. Driscoll tells 10News, "they form this network, we can triangulate and we can actually locate the fire so we can give this ignition point to the first responders". Driscoll hopes to see ten times the number of cameras installed in five years. For him, it's more than just new technology, Driscoll says it's a faster way to protect buildings and people caught in wildfires, "in the old days wed have to send out engines or aircraft". Now, fire crews will be able look at the cameras online to see how sever the flames are before calling rigs to the scene. "We can scale our response up or down from the information on the camera". Romy Meraz finds joy in watering her yard at her home in Bonita."I know the plants are happy and I'm happy for them," said Meraz.It was a different story amid the state-mandated restrictions, when she cut her watering to once a week. Years later, she'll be watering four or five times a week this summer."I want my garden to be beautiful and green," said Meraz.Meraz isn't alone. According to a report from the research group Equinox Project, The Nonprofit Institute at University of San Diego, the average daily water consumption increased from 84 gallons per person to 91 gallons per person.That's an increase of 8.3 percent. It's still shy of the 119 gallons per day in 2007, but the usage has been steadily going up since restrictions were lifted."Even with the rains, with climate change ... we know another drought will come along so we need to be prepared. We've done it in the past. It's not a matter of whether we can do it. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was hospitalized Saturday night after being stabbed several times during a confrontation in Mission Beach, police said.The incident happened around 8 p.m. in the 900 block of West Mission Bay, said Ofc. Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.Heims said a 26-year-old man approached and exchanged words with a 50-year-old man. The younger man then pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times."The victim fell to the ground and the suspect fled the scene," Heims said. "The victim was transported to the hospital where his injuries were determined (to be) non-life threatening."The suspect was caught a short time later and arrested.
