A new campaign featuring the world's only classical music organization created for people with mental illness has teamed up with advocates to honor mental illness awareness week. They're using social media to bring people together to share how we're all getting through 2020.In a socially-distanced way, musicians gather outside with masks on to rehearse and get ready for a big, monumental moment. “My husband is the driving force here, he’s a brilliant conductor. His name is Ronald Braunstein and he conducted all over the world, he also has a diagnosis of bipolar disorder,” said Caroline Whiddon. She's the co-founder and executive director of the Me2 Orchestra.She said, “we have musicians living with bipolar disorder schizophrenia, substance abuse disorders, OCD, PTSD, depression and anxiety, that’s my diagnosis, it runs the gamut and we’re all constantly learning from each other."When there's not a pandemic, the orchestra, which Whiddon describes as a "traveling band", travels everywhere. They're working to erase the stigma of mental illness through their collective and talented musical voices. "We play both in traditional concert venues like recital halls or city hall but what’s exciting for us, we go into non-traditional venues, we play in gymnasiums at correctional facilities, at addiction treatment centers, hospitals, those types of people.” They work, Whiddon says, to normalize the challenges and show their successes. She also says if you were to watch the Me2 Orchestra members perform, you would never know anyone had any sort of mental illness."I’m always telling people, 'if you were to pop in, it would just look like an orchestra rehearsing.'”Now, they're working on a brand new piece. They're using their music to encourage others to share their "monumental moments" on social media. In doing so, pharmaceutical company Neurocrine Biosciences will donate to mental health organizations. “We’re really going to inject some positivity out there, let’s talk about what’s keeping us grounded and what’s keeping us real and mentally healthy right now,” said Whiddon.Dr. Stacy Cohen, a mental health expert, says music is instrumental in its healing properties. “Music is really like medicine, it increases the flow of our positive neurotransmitters which are our brain's hormones, things like dopamine and serotonin which we’ve all heard of that tend to boost our mood or make us feel more calm or more joy, those things increase in the settings of just listening to music. It can be that simple."Cohen says, in a time when people are more stressed and anxious then ever, mental health is more challenged than ever. Which means treatment is more necessary than ever. And watching those with mental illness perform can be therapeutic. For all of us. Cohen said, “It really is a good place where you can go, listen, see how talented people are and because they’re speaking out about it you’re like wow this person who’s leading the orchestra, super high functioning but still struggles and is speaking about it can be really inspirational and uplifting to hear these stories.”That new score will premiere virtually on October 28th. A Maryland woman says she failed a drug test the day she gave birth to her daughter and was reported to state social workers, all because she ate a poppy seed bagel for breakfast.WBAL-TV in Baltimore reports that Elizabeth Eden ate a poppy seed bagel for breakfast on the morning of April 4. She went into labor later that day and went to St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson to deliver her daughter.However, while she was in labor, a doctor told her she had tested positive for opiates.Poppy seeds come from the same plant which is used to make opium, heroin and other drugs, so it's common for drug tests to pick up on trace amounts of opiates.However, while the federal government measures a positive test at 2,000 nanograms a milliliter, St. Joseph Medical Center measures a positive test at 300 nanograms a milliliter. The hospital says the lower threshold for a positive test means they can treat more children born with drugs in their system — the Baltimore Sun reports that the number of babies born with drugs in their systems increased by 56.6 percent between 2006 and 2015.Eden says the hospital refused to release her daughter to her for five days following the false positive. She also says she was assigned a caseworker, who promptly dropped the case when learning of her breakfast on the morning of April 4.Eden isn't alone. In 2017, an Edgewood, Kentucky woman was assigned a social worker after she tested positive to opioids, saying she ate bagel chips with poppy seeds shortly before giving birth. A protester was accidentally run over and killed by a car during a demonstration over rising fuel prices, a top official in eastern France said Saturday.Mass demonstrations causing roadblocks across the country are part of the "gilets jaunes" or "yellow vests" movement, which opposes mounting gas prices and eco-taxes on polluting forms of transport.The death occurred when a driver "panicked" and ran over someone after arriving at a blockade for an undeclared protest not far from the city of Lyon, Louis Laugier, the prefect of the Savoie region, said at a news conference.A further 227 people were injured -- six severely -- in protests across the country, and 73 people were taken into police custody, the Interior Ministry said in a statement. A motion filed in Superior Court says there is proof that El Cajon councilman Ben Kalasho and his wife are behind fake social media accounts used to defame a local beauty queen and restaurant. A civil lawsuit was filed earlier this year against the councilman and his wife, Jessica. It claims the woman who won in 2016, Zhala Tawfiq, was stripped of her title and not awarded the total prize money she was supposed to receive. The lawsuit claims around that time, a fake Instagram account was also created that posted the beauty queen’s face on top of other naked women’s bodies. The motion filed Monday says there is computer evidence to support the plaintiffs’ claims that the Kalashos were behind the Instagram account. The documents say “Instagram identified the IP address.” The court documents say it traced back to a close friend of Ben and Jessica Kalasho. During her deposition, Jessica Kalasho said she was with that friend the weekend the pictures were published. The Kalashos are also accused of defaming the business, 3 Brothers Taco Shop, known as the Tres Taqueria restaurant. The court documents say the Kalashos were behind a fake poll calling them the “worst Mexican food in El Cajon.” This was in retaliation for not posting Kalasho’s campaign signs on the restaurant property, according to the documents. It alleges fake Facebook profiles used to defame the restaurant “were accessed at least 194 times from the Kalasho’s El Cajon home.” Two other plaintiffs are named in the lawsuit. Attorney Lina Charry and another former beauty queen Paris Kargar, also accuse the Kalashos of defamation. It calls the behavior of the Kalashos "outrageous conduct consisting of fraud, harassment, and defamation conducted both online and in person." In a written response to Team 10, Ben Kalasho released the following statement: "The filing is comprised of untruthful allegations. IP addresses which are open to the public aren't proof. No evidence has been produced to me or my counsel to date, everything thus far has been pure allegation. Their counsel was accusing me of making the doctored up nudes when this case first started, last month he was accusing another associate of ours and now he is accusing a former queen. He is just harassing everyone at this point. All the plaintiffs know where I live and work. We have footage of them parked outside my home. I have on a number of occasions offered my laptop to be searched and scanned by a forensics expert to prove I had nothing to do with any of the untruthful allegations against me, but the Plaintiffs Lawyer has chosen to ignore my offer because he knows that it will destroy his case. Their game plan is to drag this into the media for as long as possible. A mysterious metal object has shown up along a northern San Luis Obispo County hiking trail.The monolith on Atascadero’s Pine Mountain has three sides and is 12-feet tall, according to City officials.While when the object was placed there or by who hasn't been revealed, locals say it was a recent addition.Pine Mountain is part of the Atascadero Land Preservation Society (ALPS), which says it doesn't have information on the monolith. Monolith structures are on the minds of many after the discovery of one in Utah last month. It was later removed by an unknown party. 578
