SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Whether you're out for the night in the Gaslamp District or heading to a friend's for a NYE soiree, there's plenty of options to get around on Dec. 31 without getting behind the wheel yourself.San Diego MTS is beefing up service on Dec. 31, adding more trolley service through the night and partnering with Lyft to offer ride discounts. Service to accommodate riders to the Holiday Bowl Parade and game are also being offered.With the additional services, some modified schedules will be in place:New Year's Eve (Dec. 31): All trolley lines and most MTS bus routes will operate on normal weekday schedule.Holiday Bowl Parade: Extra Green Line Trolley service between Mission Valley and downtown will begin at 9 a.m. and will continue after the parade. He jokingly said the chore is welcomed in the triple-digit heat.“Yeah it’s warm it’s hot, agreed, but that’s why I’m washing my car here, I can wash my car, take a bath, take a shower, save electricity it’s great,” said Schallock.Hot temperatures could break records throughout the holiday weekend. Coastal areas will see highs in the 90s for Saturday and Sunday, and just a few miles inland highs will jump into the 100s, even the mountains. Deserts will be close to 120 for about the third time this summer. A Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday until 6 p.m. Sunday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With temperatures expected to soar into the 80s and 90s along San Diego's coast this weekend, lifeguards say they'll be extra vigilant at beaches and bays."We still want people to come and enjoy the beach," said San Diego Lifeguards Lt. Rich Stropky. "But come talk to us first; We will describe the do's and don'ts and any safety issues."In addition to the usual rip currents and stingrays, lifeguards say people need to be careful about over-exertion and heat-related illness like heat stroke or dehydration.Study: Longer and more frequent heatwaves expected for Southern California"Especially if you're at a beach like Torrey Pines, where you have to hike in or hike out," said Stropky. "So, bring lots of water. Hydrate often, not just when you're thirsty. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Video captured shots ringing out, apparently pelting cars in a Rolando neighborhood, including the vehicles of a family already impacted by the pandemic.A shattered windshield is what Ondria Aviles found when she went to her Dodge Journey, parked outside her home along Marraco Drive on Monday night."Just couldn't believe that had happened," said Aviles.Her husband came out and found the driver side window of his truck - also parked on the street - was also shattered."My husband had a BB pellet hole in his window," said Aviles.Turns the moments their vehicles were vandalized were captured by neighbor Ryan Dick's surveillance camera. Just before 7:30 that night, a red sedan was recorded driving through when three shots rang out in a span of three seconds. The final two shots sounded near Aviles' vehicles.According to posts on the Nextdoor app, at least four other cars and homes were struck in a several-mile stretch. "Couldn't imagine if they missed and hit someone, a young child. We have three kids," said Aviles.Along with her outrage, there is frustration. The bill for the window damage will be a hardship. Because of the pandemic, she's been furloughed for several months.
