An independent news organization has researched reports regarding the size of airplane seating, and its findings led it to call coach-class seating a "death trap."The Daily Beast says dense, shrunken seat space does not do a safe enough job of allowing passengers to move quickly in the event of emergencies. DB's investigation found the FAA nor Boeing is disclosing evacuation test data "for the newest (and most densely seated) versions of the most widely used jet, the Boeing 737."It also found tests to ensure all passengers may safely leave a cabin are "dangerously outdated." They do not reflect how densely packed coach class seating has become, the report says."No coach class seat meets the Department of Transportation's own standard for space required to make a flight attendant's seat safe in an emergency," the DB reports. An area of open desert south of Tucson Airport has commonly been referred to as the "Dogpatch." The land has been known to be a dumping ground for trash and dogs, and it has been going on for decades. Angels for Animals is one of many groups that over the years has tried to clean up the Dogpatch.A volunteer with the organization, Jason Gilliam, said that it is an issue that will never go away for good, but it can be managed. "If we make it out here without seeing a dead one, it's a good day." Gilliam says for every weekly visit; they'll find between three to five dead dogs.The Pima County Sheriff's Department says their efforts to stop illegal dog dumping depends on the number of reports they get from people in the area. Deputy James Allerton says as a community, it could be possible to clean up the Dogpatch one day.  877

AMES, N.Y. -- In the tiny village of Ames, New York, new homeowners unearthed a secret history that sounds too far-fetched for reality.Nick Drummond and Patrick Bakker are the owners of the Bootlegger Bungalow. They have been living in the rural home for about a year. They were told it was built by a bootlegger, but they didn’t believe it until their recent renovation brought out the truth.“I was in the process of removing this rotted wood skirting that went around the mudroom sort of where the foundation would be if it was a truly finished structure, and as I’m peeling back the boards on one of the sides, all of the sudden all this hay falls out and I was very confused," Drummond said. "And at first I was like ‘oh this must be insulation’ – of course all this is taking place within a few seconds in my head – and then I look and I’m like ‘well wait a second, what’s that glass thing?'""And then I pull it up and I’m looking at this old liquor bottle, and then I’m looking at the other package and there’s these other little tops poking out of the hay, and then I look back at the wall and there’s like the edge of this other package tied up with string and I’m like ‘holy crap, this is like a stash of booze,’” Drummond said.Sixty-six bottles of Gaelic whisky from the prohibition era were hidden for nearly a century within the walls and floorboards of a little shack tacked onto the side of the house, originally used as a mudroom to store coats and shoes.“It was like you found the jackpot," Bakker said. "Like this is what you always want to find in a house.”The bootlegger who lived there was Count Adolf Humpfner. According to newspapers of the time, he was the talk of the town and involved in a lot of scandal. Drummond says he died a sudden mysterious death, leaving all the bootlegger alcohol behind.“I mean, the guy had a buffalo robe," Drummond said. "I don’t even know what that was. But I’m just imagining this tall, heavy set German guy walking around in a buffalo robe surrounded by dozens of cash registers. Ya know it’s fantastic, I love it, I love thinking about that.”As they continue renovating the house, Drummond and Bakker say they want to preserve its incredible history.“Every building has a story to tell," Drummond said. "And it’s really a matter of peeling back all the different parts and pieces and sort of analyzing them. And you’d be surprised by what you can find.”Keeping only a couple damaged bottles, they say they plan to sell the rest to collectors, each one worth something between and ,200.“At the end of the day, we’re just sitting and we’re like ‘we really like the house so much more now,'” Bakker said. 2672

An Arkansas sheriff's office has arrested a woman who helped her boyfriend escape from the county jail last month by posing as a deputy from California.Maxine Feldstein, 30, was arrested Aug. 17 in connection with forgery, accomplice to third-degree escape and criminal impersonation.Feldstein's boyfriend, Nicholas Lowe, was at the Washington County Detention Center on July 27 with a hold for criminal impersonation out of Ventura, Calif., according to a probable cause affidavit.Feldstein, who had bonded out earlier that day, called Washington County jail staff and identified herself as deputy "L. Kershaw" with the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. She also provided a forged VCSO document releasing the agency's hold on Lowe.Jail staff learned of the forgery and accidental release two days later, when a VCSO deputy called to say he was on his way to pick up Lowe.The sheriff's office discovered through jail video that Lowe told Feldstein to pose as a VCSO deputy while she visited him, according to the affidavit.Lowe said Feldstein should tell Washington County that VCSO was "having issues with overcrowding and all low-priority extraditions have been suspended," according to the affidavit.Washington County later confirmed the VCSO document Feldstein used was fake, and that VCSO didn't have a deputy named "L. Kershaw," according to the affidavit.Lowe was also arrested Friday and faces a felony charge of second-degree escape.A spokeswoman for the sheriff's office said the agency is "still evaluating to determine the best corrective action needed to ensure this doesn't happen again.""There is a procedure to ensure requests are legitimate, and that hasn't changed," she said.Feldstein and Lowe were being held Tuesday (Aug. 21) at the Washington County Detention Center on bonds of ,500 and ,000, respectively.The pair has hearings set for Sept. 5 in Washington County Circuit Court. 1920

And the Santa seen in each picture frame is the colorful creation of Caleb himself.“The outpouring that he has gotten it's just been... it hasn't stopped," Caleb's grandma said. Money from every picture sold goes straight to charity.“This week we’re gonna donate to the little heroes," Caleb said. "And every other week we’re gonna pick a different charity to donate to.”Caleb plans on selling these picture frames year-round and with different themes.
