(KGTV) - The nearing Deferred Action for Childhood Act deadline is prompting artists to get their take immigrants' experiences out before the government’s decision.San Diego Border Dreamers hosted a fundraiser featuring all immigration-related art. More than 40 artists from around California donated various works for the show that was held at Bread and Salt in Barrio Logan.All proceeds from the artwork sold went the group and effort to get a clean DACA bill.“I hope with this we are able to enlighten people about our experience for those that are not fully aware what we go through,” said Dulce Garcia, a DACA recipient.  659

(KGTV) -  The safety driver behind the wheel of an autonomous Uber vehicle that struck and killed a woman in Arizona is a convicted felon, according to ABC affiliate KABC.The driver, identified as 44-year-old Rafael Vasquez, was in the self-driving car when it fatally hit 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg as she crossed an unlit Tempe, Ariz., roadway outside of a crosswalk with her bicycle.Court documents showed someone with the same name and birthdate served more than four years for two felony convictions: One for making false statement when obtaining unemployment benefits and the other for armed robbery, according to KABC.RELATED: Police release video after Uber self-driving car hits, kills womanWhile the crash has raised concerns over Uber's driver screening policy, the company states "everyone deserves a fair chance" in regards to employing those with a criminal record.Uber said Vasquez met the company's hiring requirements, KABC reported. A 6-year-old girl shared her thoughts on Baltimore's crime through a heartfelt Facebook video as the city deals with more than 30 murders in the month of April.In the video, you can see 6-year-old Kelsey wearing a shirt that says "Don't Shoot Let Me Grow Up" as she begins to share her feeling on the numerous killings that are plaguing the city that she calls home."Why can't y'all just let us live, why can't y'all just let us grow up, why can't you just let us have fun when we want to play with our friends. Well, we can't because y'all out there shooting kids, shooting babies, shooting mothers and fathers," said Kelsey.Kelsey began to make an emotional outpour as she cried sharing the frustrations that she feels as a child in Baltimore City."This is not a world you let other people shoot in, we want our lives to be better than this," said Kelsey. A 16-year-old Indiana high school football player confessed to fatally stabbing a pregnant schoolmate after she waited too long to tell him about the pregnancy to get an abortion, according to court papers.Aaron Trejo, a member of the Mishawaka High School football team, was charged Monday with murder and feticide in the death of Breana Rouhselang on Saturday. The 17-year-old junior and cheerleader at the school east of South Bend was six months pregnant, her mother told police, according to an affidavit. An autopsy confirmed the pregnancy.Trejo told authorities he was aware of Breana's pregnancy and that he was alleged to be the father, the affidavit said, but he said neither wanted to have the baby. He said the two fought about the child before he stabbed Breana in the heart with a knife on Saturday, according to the affidavit. He then put a black plastic bag over her, put her body in a dumpster, and threw her phone and the knife in a river, court papers said."I took action ... I took her life," he said, when asked by authorities what he did when he learned she had waited too long to get an abortion by the time she told him of the pregnancy, according to the affidavit.Trejo told authorities "he had been planning and thinking about killing Breana and the baby for about a week and had not told anybody," according to the affidavit.An autopsy revealed that Breana died from multiple stab wounds and was choked with her scarf, the affidavit said.Trejo, who is being held without bond, is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday. CNN was unable to reach the Trejo family on Monday. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit Assistant Commander Lt. Alex Arendt told reporters that the Rouhselang family had contacted the Mishawaka Police Department about 4:30 a.m. Sunday to report her missing after last seeing her at home around midnight."Upon their arrival and a search of the area they found evidence of a possible violent crime," Arendt said.Police later found her body in a dumpster behind a business, Arendt said. A black plastic bag had been placed over her head and upper torso, according to court papers.Trejo initially told police he contacted Breana for the first time in months to see how she was coping with the pregnancy. A bipartisan group of senators has failed to reach an agreement on stabilizing Obamacare in 2018.Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander, who chaired a set of health committee hearings with Democratic Sen. Patty Murray of Washington, said Tuesday that the effort to craft a "limited, bipartisan plan" to take to Senate leaders by the end of September had come to a standstill."During the last month, we have worked hard and in good faith, but have not found the necessary consensus among Republicans and Democrats to put a bill in the Senate leaders' hands that could be enacted," Alexander said in a statement.Murray said she regretted Alexander's decision, noting the group had identified "significant common ground" and that she had agreed to give states additional flexibility over how they implement Obamacare.The halt comes as Republicans have revived an effort to repeal Obamacare before the end of the month, when their authority to pass a bill with a simple majority ends.
