SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Residents of San Diego County are still disposing of more waste than the average Californian, according to a report by the research group Equinox Project at the Center for Sustainable Energy.According to the report, San Diego continues to dispose of more waste per capita than any of the other major urban counties throughout the state.The latest numbers, which came out in 2016, show that each San Diegan tossed out an average of 5.5 pounds of trash per day in 2016.Within San Diego County, residents in Del Mar disposed of the most trash at 16.5 pounds per capita.Residents of Imperial Beach, however, disposed of the least trash at 3.3 pounds per person followed by Chula Vista at 3.7 pounds per capita.The numbers show that three jurisdictions, Solana Beach, Lemon Grove and Coronado, decreased their waste disposal in 2016.Residents of within the city of San Diego disposed of 5.9 pounds of waste per person per day.The numbers below show how much trash per capita jurisdictions around the county disposed of: 1052
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police are looking for the driver that hit and killed a man in Chollas Creek early Friday morning.SDPD officers say it happened around 1 a.m. on Chollas Parkway. The man was either standing or walking in the street when a speeding car hit him.The victim died at the scene, police confirmed.Police do not have a description of the car but say it was a racer-type vehicle with a loud muffler. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials have warned at least three local churches about having services indoors. The county sent out three letters to Skyline Church in La Mesa; Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lemon Grove; and Awaken Church's campus on Balboa Avenue in Kearny Mesa.The letters to Skyline and Lighthouse were very similar, saying indoor services create "significant risk of spreading COVID-19," encouraging the churches to move their in-person services outside. The third document is a cease-and-desist letter sent to Awaken Church ordering the church to stop indoor operations. All three letters are dated July 17 and are signed by County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten. The letters state that failure to comply with these orders can mean criminal misdemeanor citations with a fine of ,000 for each violation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced Monday a larger investment into a program creating job opportunities for the homeless. Wheels of Change was launched in 2018 as a public-private partnership providing jobs and training for those living in the Alpha Project bridge shelter. “It’s innovative, it’s unique. It’s working it’s growing and it’s making a difference in people’s lives,” said Faulconer. The program is expanding from three to ten shifts per week, with participants earning per hour as they remove litter and debris through the Clean SD initiativee. An additional van is also being provided to transport the 20 workers. The City of San Diego doubled its investment to 0,000 this fiscal year.
