BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's home prices continued to rise in July as bank loans surged and the country's economy improved.     Home prices in 70 large and medium-sized Chinese cities rose 1 percent in July from a year earlier, according to a joint statement issued Monday by the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Bureau of Statistics. The prices climbed 0.9 percent from June, which saw a 0.8 percent gain over May.     Prices of new homes in the listed cities rose 0.3 percent year on year in July, and 1.1 percent from June. New home prices increased in 43 cities, including eastern Ningbo City and northwestern Yinchuan City, which saw growth rates of 6.4 percent and 5.4 percent respectively. Graphics shows China's housing sales price in July increased 1.0 percent year-on-year in 70 large and medium-sized cities, according to the State Bureau of Statistics on Aug. 10, 2009.     Prices fell in 26 cities. The northern city of Shijiazhuang and southern city of Shenzhen witnessed price drops of 5.5 percent and 4.6 percent in July year on year.     Second-hand homes in the 70 cities rose 3 percent in July from the same period last year and 0.9 percent from June.     In the first seven months, property investment hit 1.77 trillion yuan (259.44 billion U.S. dollars), up 11.6 percent year on year. The rise was1.7 percentage points higher than the first six months.     Over the same period, the floor area of property sold stood at 417.55 million square meters, up 37.1 percent year on year. The value of property sales jumped 60.4 percent to 1.96 trillion yuan.     Chinese banks lent a record 7.37 trillion yuan of yuan-dominated loans in the first half, exceeding the annual target of 5 trillion yuan.     The country's central bank announced earlier this month that new loans to home buyers in the first half rose by 263.3 billion yuan year on year to 479.3 billion yuan, boosted by an improving property market performance.     New credit for property developers increased by 221 billion yuan year on year to 403.9 billion yuan, said the central bank.     Premier Wen Jiabao reaffirmed over the weekend that the government's relaxed monetary policy would continue.

BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) and Kuomintang (KMT) both expressed wish to promote cross-Strait trust and common understanding as Ma Ying-jeou took the position as the KMT chairman on Saturday.     The CPC Central Committee Saturday congratulated the Kuomintang(KMT) on the convocation of its18th congress, expecting the two parties to deepen mutual trust, increase exchanges and expand common understanding.     In a reply, the KMT Central Committee said they will work with the CPC for improving trust and mutual benefits, in a bid to improve the welfare of people on both sides.     At the congress, the KMT again included the "common aspirations and prospects for peace and development across the Taiwan Strait, "reached between the CPC and KMT in 2005, in its political guideline. UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Thursday made a five-point proposal for building a safer world for all through nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament. During an address at the U.N. Security Council nuclear summit, Hu said "nuclear proliferation remains a pressing issue and nuclear disarmament a long and arduous task."     "To realize a safer world for all, we must first and foremost remove the threat of nuclear war," he said.     The Chinese president called for efforts be made in the following five areas: Chinese President Hu Jintao (Front) addresses the Summit on Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Nuclear Disarmament at the United Nations headquarters in New York Sept. 24, 2009. The U.N. Security Council on Thursday unanimously adopted a resolution to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons in a bid to seek a safer world for all, and to create conditions for a world without nuclear weapons    First, to maintain global strategic balance and stability and vigorously advance nuclear disarmament:     All nuclear-weapon states should fulfill in good faith obligations under Article VI of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), and publicly undertake to not seek permanent possession of nuclear weapons.     "Countries with the largest nuclear arsenals should continue to take the lead in making drastic and substantive reductions in their nuclear weapons," he said.     To attain the ultimate goal of complete and thorough nuclear disarmament, the international community should develop, at an appropriate time, a viable, long-term plan composed of phased actions, including the conclusion of a convention on the complete prohibition of nuclear weapons, he said.     Second, to abandon the nuclear deterrence policy based on first use and take credible steps to reduce the threat of nuclear weapons:     "All nuclear-weapon states should make an unequivocal commitment of unconditionally not using or threatening to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear-weapon states or nuclear-weapon-free zones, and conclude a legally-binding international instrument in this regard," Hu said.     In the meantime, nuclear states should negotiate and conclude a treaty on no-first-use of atomic weapons against one another.     Third, to consolidate the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and prevent the proliferation of nuclear arms.     "All countries should join the NPT and real efforts should be made to uphold and enhance its authority and effectiveness. The function of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in safeguards should be strengthened," Hu said.     All countries should strictly comply with non-proliferation obligations, refrain from double standards, and tighten and improve export controls to prevent proliferation.     Fourth, to fully respect the right of all countries to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and carry out active international cooperation:     "Developed countries should actively assist developing countries in developing and using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Promote development, eradicate poverty, and remove the root causes of conflict and instability.     -- Fully respect and accommodate the legitimate and reasonable security concerns of all countries, refrain from pursuing one's own security at the expense of others, and ensure security for all through win-win cooperation.     -- Build state-to-state relations of mutual understanding and mutual trust, resolve differences and dispel misgivings, and conduct dialogues and cooperation on an equal footing.     -- Adhere to multilateralism. Consolidate the collective security system with the United Nations at its core and make the system more just and reasonable so that it can play a robust role in international security cooperation.     Hu was in New York for a series of U.N. meetings. He was scheduled to attend a financial summit of the Group of 20 in Pittsburgh on Thursday and Friday. 

BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- China is to hold a National Day military and mass parade as well as an evening gala on Tian'anmen Square Thursday to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).     Following will be highlights of the once-in-a-decade grand celebrations:     -- Chinese leaders, including President Hu Jintao, will be on Tian'anmen Rostrum to observe the parade.     -- President Hu is to review line-ups of the tri-service People's Liberation Army (PLA), standing in an open-top home-made Red Flag limousine.     -- National flag raising ceremony will be held on Tian'anmen Square.     -- Military parade is expected to involve more than 8,000 people, and a total of 52 types of new weapon systems, including the PLA's missiles, airborne early warning and control aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and other sophisticated military hardware, will be shown.     -- Military paraders will march goose-step through the square in new-style uniforms initiated in 2007.     -- Women militia soldiers in purple skirts will march goose-step through Tian'anmen Square, holding submachine guns. Chinese athletes reaped 51 gold medals in the Beijing Olympics, ranking the first in the gold medal list.     -- About 60,000 people will dance to the song "I Love China" at the grandiose National Day evening gala, showcasing the country's ethnic harmony and development.     -- Fireworks, designed by renowned Chinese artist Cai Guoqiang who masterminded the firework display at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games, will dazzle the night of the National Day.     -- About 4,000 performers will form a "light cubic" formation in the center of Tian'anmen Square at the gala.
