VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A young boy was airlifted to the hospital Tuesday night following a hit-and-run. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened on the 1000 block of Mar Vista Drive around 5 p.m. Lt. Ted Greenawald said a white sedan struck the 12-year-old before leaving the scene. Reports indicate that a second vehicle may have also hit the boy. That driver is said to have remained at the scene. The boy was taken to the Rady Children’s Hospital with injuries to his leg and cuts on his face. The child was conscious and responsive while being treated at the scene, Greenawald said. An initial investigation indicated that the vehicle that first struck the boy was a 2019-2020 white Toyota sedan. “The sedan should have damage to the right mirror and possible front-end damage,” the department said in a news release. Workers removing shelves and coolers from a former No Frills Supermarket in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in January discovered a body behind one of them.The remains were recently identified as those of Larry Ely Murillo-Moncada, a former employee who had been reported missing November 28, 2009.Investigators used his parents' DNA to confirm the identity, and the clothes matched the description of his attire at the time he was reported missing, according to Council Bluffs Police Capt. Todd Weddum.Murillo-Moncada's parents reported their son missing after he became upset and ran out of their home. They told police at the time that he was acting irrationally, possibly because of medication he was taking, Weddum said.Officers contacted family members, other law enforcement agencies, nearby detention centers and even the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency -- he had been deported to Honduras before making his way back to the United States -- but received no information regarding his possible whereabouts.Investigators now believe that Murillo-Moncada went to the supermarket and climbed on top of the coolers. The space was used as storage for merchandise, Weddum said, and employees would sometimes go there to hide when they wanted to take an unofficial break.He is thought to have fallen into the 18-inch gap between the back of the cooler and a wall, where he became trapped. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The pomp and circumstance will be virtual this year, but the money incoming Mayor Todd Gloria and the nine City Council members will take home is very real.Starting Thursday, the city will pay its mayor 6,000 a year -- more than double outgoing Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s roughly 1,000 salary.Meanwhile, City Council salaries will jump from ,000 a year to 4,000 overnight. That's a 65 percent raise; it increases to 5,000 on Dec. 10, 2022.The timing may seem odd, given the pandemic's impact on jobs and our economy, and the fact that major city general fund revenues are projected to be about million under budget this fiscal year. But it turns out San Diego voters authorized these pay increases back in 2018 via Measure L, which voters passed with 78 percent approval.In a statement, a spokeswoman for Gloria said he would accept the full salary."Nearly 80 percent of San Diego voters agreed that the adjustments to the salaries of San Diego elected officials was the right thing to do. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Four people were arrested following a Border Patrol chase that made its way through San Diego Wednesday afternoon. The chase started after noon on Highway 94 in East County after the driver failed to stop for an immigration inspection at the Border Patrol checkpoint in Jamul. The agency said the chase made its way through the county before ending in San Diego's Legacy Walk neighborhood. The four suspects then stopped and fled the vehicle near San Pasqual Street and Logan Avenue. According to the agency, the suspects then ran into the Mountain View Beckworth Library where they were taken into custody. All four suspects were in the U.S. illegally, Border Patrol says. 704
