SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Current COVID-19 restrictions in San Diego County are crushing the coin-operated game industry.From manufacturers to those who place games in restaurants, business is almost non-existent. The industry is calling on the county and state to step in before the local businesses are no more.Doug Hutton says his passion for coin-operated games started at a young age before blooming into a successful business 31 years later."Instead of putting all our money into the games, we should buy a game and I said that's the stupidest idea and suddenly here I am," Hutton said. "Three or four games in a restaurant and we share that revenue with the restaurant."Then the moment that all but ended the game. California ordered restaurants to close indoor operations due to the spread of the coronavirus."The governor mandated all restaurants needed to be closed for dine ins so, of course, that means we're out of business too," Hutton said.No quarters meant no money. No money meant no jobs for his five employees."It's been really hard. I mean first I had to lay them all off and they knew, I mean we had a meeting and I don't have a choice, there's no revenue," Hutton said.Five months later, Hutton's business is in the same predicament.For a moment, he thought he'd gotten a new life. Positive cases of COVID-19 were dropping and businesses reopened in San Diego and Southern California. Hutton said he had a safety plan ready."Maybe I don't want to wear a glove but I still want to sanitize, I mean that's not hard these are easy to come by. Our industry is selling them," says Hutton.Then a resurgence of cases and indoor operations once again came to a stop. Hutton's world got put on tilt. With no signs of things letting up he worries the stay at home orders are driving the arcade game industry out business."I've got to feed my family. I've got to pay rent here," Hutton says. “There are thousands and thousands of people and it’s crushing the whole industry."Hutton believes the only way to survive is by getting the government to allow businesses to get in the game before time runs out."The only way I won't come back is if I can't wait it out long enough," said Hutton.In a statement to ABC 10News, San Diego County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar said, in part, "Much like the clock winding down on a popular arcade game, the family entertainment industry is in a race against time to stay solvent. This unprecedented shutdown has dealt family entertainment centers a heavy blow with no relief in sight. I am hopeful that my fellow Supervisors will join me in supporting these businesses through the County’s Small Business Stimulus Grant Program." 2675

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 26-year-old was hospitalized late Saturday night after being struck by an SUV while riding his motorcycle.Police say the man was crossing an intersection at 5th Avenue and Ash Street around 9:41 when 82-year-old Herbert Green ran a red light and hit the 26-year-old.The rider flew off the bike when police say he hit a parked car with his head. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officers were able to catch up to and arrest Green several blocks away from the scene of the crash. 545

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A bluff that overlooks Beacon’s Beach in Encinitas is on the brink of collapsing, which could mean changes for the walking trail that leads visitors down to the beach. The City of Encinitas says the bluff is at risk. There is a low-lying failure and the bluff could fall, taking the walking trail with it.“We’ve been told by our experts that there is a chance that the slide could happen at any time,”says Brenda Wisneski, Developmental Services Director for the City of Encinitas. Visitors at Beacon’s Beach say they feel the walking trail makes the beach different from others. “It’s one of my favorite beaches in all of San Diego. A part of that is because of the access, this trail is highly unique and it's not stairs,” says Mark Tayer. The city has a proposal to add a staircase south of the entry to the trail.“That is the most safe, the most secure. It requires a minimal amount of stability at the base of it,” says Wisneski.Wisneski says the city also has plans to move the parking lot back from the failure area. This could mean fewer parking spaces for visitors. The city hopes to begin construction in the fall of 2019. The proposal will go to the planning commission next. The trail will stay there until it poses a safety issue to visitors. On Wednesday, the City of Encinitas will have an open house where members of the community can voice their concerns. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two San Diego City Council members called Wednesday on California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and District Attorney Summer Stephan to investigate San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliott's possible role in an alleged child sexual abuse cover-up at the San Diego Junior Theatre.Council members Scott Sherman and Vivian Moreno sent a jointly written letter to Becerra and Stephan imploring them to investigate allegations made by attorney Matt Valenti that Elliott improperly shared information on the case with then-Junior Theatre Board member Gil Cabrera, who Valenti claims tried to silence the case's whistleblowers."We are writing to respectfully request your respective offices' review and consideration for appropriate action, as the authority to investigate these complaints falls under the jurisdiction of your departments," their letter states. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Clairemont neighborhood woke up Thursday to a police raid, one week after surveillance video captured a gun battle in the exact same area. A damaged front door was left behind after a police action early in the morning. Just before 7 a.m., a surveillance camera captured officers arriving on Batista Street. They line up in front of a two-story home, before executing a search warrant there."So unusual. Don't remember anything like this in recent memory," said Gail Martin, who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 30 years. For neighbors, the bizarre events began last Friday. Doorbell video shows a speeding black truck turning onto a street past a sedan, which then begins to move. In the next video, the truck is stopped on the street. Not far away, someone emerges from the passenger side of the car and starts firing a handgun. After about six shots are exchanged. The car then backs up and peels out. Another surveillance camera shows the truck racing out of the area.Evidence markers revealed a scene resembling the Wild West. Did other clues lead to the nearby home? Neighbors tell 10news a lot of young people are seen coming in and out at all hours."A lot of partying, a lot of drinking. Yelling and fighting ... not very common for this neighborhood," said Eric Jacobs. On this morning, the activity was narcotics officers swarming the home. The search of the house lasted more than an hour-and-a-half. When it wrapped up, a young man was handcuffed and taken into custody. A SDPD spokesperon confirmed a search warrant was completed by narcotics officers but said detectives have yet to make a link to the shooting. 1665
