SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This weekend is filled with events celebrating San Diego Pride, fun at the fairgrounds, and virtual events to keep locals busy at home.San Diego Pride's Spirit of Stone Wall Rally and Pride Live events will celebrate the region's LGBTQ community and leaders who have contributed to the community with awards, presentations, and entertainment during what would traditionally be the city's Pride weekend.The Natural History Museum is continuing its Friday night trivia events with a virtual rendition with the same flavor of the museum's rooftop event at home.And, of course, with beaches open, locals can safely soak in the rays on the sand, or head to the Del Mar Fairgrounds for a bite of fair food throughout the weekend.(As a reminder, residents are encouraged to stay home if they feel ill and avoid large gatherings with people not from the same household. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Tommy Bahama is known for its selection of tropical clothes and button-up shirts, but will soon add exotic drinks and dishes to its list in Mission Valley.The retail chain says it's set to open a Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar at Fashion Valley Mall in Spring 2020. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego LGBT Community Center (The Center) has decided it will no longer allow armed, uniformed officers at its facilities and events. “Last year, The Center heard from over 140 Black community members at our Town Hall for the Black LGBTQ Community. Many spoke of the pain and hurt that is caused when one does not feel welcome in our LGBTQ community, including at The Center.Overwhelmingly, we heard that the lack of policy restricting the presence of armed, uniformed law enforcement officers is a barrier to the Black LGBTQ community feeling welcomed at The Center,” said CEO Cara Dessert in a letter posted to The Center’s website. I think we’ve come a long way, but we’re not where we need to be,” said community activist Charles Brown.“I’m black, and I’m gay. So am I a target? I think I am. He said it took many years and hard work for the LGBTQ community to build that relationship.“Let’s sit down and talk about how we can make sure we can help protect Black Lives Matters and make a difference with the help of the police department instead of saying ‘no we don’t want you because you wear a gun and a uniform,’” said Phillips.“If people are out killing our Black brothers and sisters in America, they should be arrested, tried, and punished to the full extent of the law. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The pandemic, protests, riots, there's a lot of stressors out there, but Licensed Psychologist Dr. Michelle Carcel has a few ways to find positivity."We have to go through those motions to be effective and to make sure that we can therefore get to a place where we can actually feel positive," Dr. Carcel said.She said cut out negativity, from social media to people you know, "there are so many things that we can feel terrible about right now and that's something we have to honor and we can also find that one moment in the day where we stopped and smelled the flowers."She said focus on the positives, find three things each day you are grateful for. Doing this each day trains your brain to look for the positives. She also said exercise and advocacy are two great ways to change your perspective."Advocacy, you know helping out, doing volunteer work. If you really feel passionate about what's going on right now you can advocate, you have a voice and your voice matters," Carcel said writing leaders is very important right now.Voices were raised across the U.S. at peaceful protests, creating positive change, interactions and dialogue this week after the tragic death of George Floyd."I'm really going to recommend if you have a friend or somebody of a different ethnicity or culture, engage in a productive conversation.
