(AP) — Attorney General Jeff Sessions will travel to California to make a major announcement about sanctuary policies that limit local and state cooperation with federal immigration authorities.Sessions is expected to speak Wednesday to law enforcement officials at an annual gathering of California law enforcement organizations in Sacramento.Trump administration officials have promised to crack down on policies that keep local law enforcement from advising federal agents when they release immigrants living in the country illegally.The administration has heavily criticized California, home to sanctuary cities such as San Francisco.In addition, Gov. Robert Davis, 70, faces criminal charges after he was caught in South Florida allegedly using a device that concealed his license plate while driving past toll stations, WPLG-TV reported. For the last 18 months, social media users have been posting videos of a Chrysler van driving past toll stations with a concealed license plate. Until last week, Florida Highway Patrol was unable to find the van. But on Saturday, an off-duty Florida Highway Patrol officer finally spotted the van near Homestead, Fla. "I kind of realized that is the guy and I had to call it in," Lieutenant Alejandro Camacho told WPLG. "And then troopers came and stopped him and made an arrest. (AP) — California would become the first state to require businesses to offer electronic receipts unless customers ask for paper copies under legislation proposed on Tuesday.Many businesses and consumers already are moving toward e-receipts, said Democratic Assemblyman Phil Ting of San Francisco.But he said a law still is needed because many consumers don't realize most paper receipts are coated with chemicals prohibited in baby bottles, can't be recycled and can contaminate other recycled paper because of the chemicals known as Bisphenol-A (BPA) and Bisphenol-S (BPS).His bill, AB161, would require all businesses to provide proof of purchase receipts electronically starting in 2022 unless the customer asks for a printed copy.RELATED: City Council votes to ban Styrofoam across San DiegoIt comes days after another first-in-the-nation California law took effect requiring dine-in restaurants to provide drinking straws only at customers' request.The penalties in Ting's bill are modeled on the straw bill, said Nick Lapis of Californians Against Waste. RIDGECREST, Calif. (KGTV) — A 4.7-magnitude earthquake hit just outside the town Southern California town of Ridgecrest late Thursday.The quake struck near area of Little Lake, Calif., about 20 miles away from Ridgecrest just after 5:40 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. USGS estimated the earthquake's depth at about 1.2 miles.The earthquake could be felt from as far away as Spring Valley, according to the USGS' "Did You Feel It?" map.Several aftershocks were recorded around the area following the 4.7 shake up. No injuries were immediately reported. On July 5, magnitude 5.4 and 7.1 quakes hit the Ridgecrest area, causing millions in damage locally. Those quakes could be felt as far away as Las Vegas. 729
