Sears, the once-dominant retail chain that changed how Americans shopped and lived, has filed for bankruptcy.The 132-year-old company has been struggling for several years and is drowning in debt. The final straw was a 4 million debt payment due Monday that it could not afford.Sears Holdings (SHLD), the parent company, which owns Sears and Kmart, is among dozens of prominent retailers to declare bankruptcy in the era of Amazon. The company issued a statement saying it intends to stay in business, keeping stores which are profitable open, along with the Sears and Kmart online shopping sites. But it said it looking for a buyer for a large number of its remaining stores and that it will close at least an additional 142 stores near the end of this year, in additional to the 46 store closing already planned for next month. 945

Say goodbye to another 40 Sears and Kmart stores.Sears Holdings (SHLD), the bankrupt parent company of the two retailers, said Thursday that 11 Kmart locations and 29 Sears stores will close their doors in February 2019 — adding to the nearly 200?locations the company has already said will shut down in coming months.The closures are part of Sears Holdings' efforts to drastically reduce costs and find a viable way forward as it moves through bankruptcy proceedings. The company has?been struggling for several years and is drowning in debt.Liquidation sales at the 40 locations "are expected to begin late next week," the company said.Sears Holdings operated about 1,000 stores as recently as February but has been shuttering underperforming stores. When the company filed for bankruptcy last month, it said it only had about 400 stores that could turn a profit. Now, it's in the process of shedding more dead weight.In its bankruptcy filing, Sears named 142 of its worst-performing stores that would shut down in the coming months. Dayleen Coleman, the owner of D'liteful Chocolat in San Marcos, is fortunate enough to spend her days creating with chocolate. Coleman calls working with chocolate an art, but she will be the first to tell you, she's not a chocolate maker, she's a chocolatier."We all have are own little specialties when working with chocolate. It's a way to express yourself. You're taking a product and then you are creating with it," Coleman said.But while she continues to produce delectable chocolates, like truffles and other goodies, the current pandemic has forced her to take a new approach to sell her sweets."I love to teach, and that's been my passion. We had to stop our classes for the longest time. I also work with wineries as well, and it all stopped," Coleman said.While D'liteful Chocolat has continued their online sales, they found one way to create more income by starting a membership club. The thinking is, a little chocolate may create happiness for their customers."People wanted to something to still celebrate," says Coleman. "So that's how we came up with our boxes. We started curating these boxes and decided to start a club. Gina Potter has been named the 9th San Ysidro School Superintendent in the last five years.In 2013, Manuel Paul resigned on corruption charges. He pleaded guilty two years later and was sentenced to two months in federal prison.The district hasn’t had a permanent superintendent since September when Julio Fonseca resigned amid allegations of financial wrongdoing.Jose Arturo Sanchez-Macias then stepped in but stepped down two months later following questions regarding payments to himself and his predecessor.Parents and teachers in the district say they want results to create a stronger learning environment they say students deserve. 749

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Santa Clara County announced its first coronavirus death Monday. According to the county’s public health department, the person who died was a woman in her 60s who was hospitalized for several weeks. The woman was the first person in Santa Clara County to test positive for COVID-19 without any known history of international travel or contact with a traveler.
