(KGTV) - The group leading the campaign to transform the San Diego County Credit Union Stadium site into a west campus for San Diego State University has major concerns over the question that will be posed to voters on the November ballot. Friends of SDSU is dismayed to the point that the issue could wind up in court. "Our position is we've correctly portrayed the initiative measure in our corrected version. A 28-year-old doctor in Houston has died of COVID-19, according to a GoFundMe set up by her family.According to an update from her father, Dr. Adeline Fagan died on Sept. 19, more than two months after contracting the virus.Fagan, a native of Syracuse, New York, was in the second year of a residency as an OB/GYN at a Houston hospital, according to KTRK-TV in Houston. She typically only worked in the hospital's delivery room, but on July 8, she took a shift in the ER treating COVID-19 patients.Fagan's family says that morning, "feeling well and excited to see patients" as she headed in to see her patients. But later that day, she started to feel "intense, flu-like symptoms."Within a week, Fagan had been diagnosed with COVID-19 and had been hospitalized. Despite several experimental drug treatments, she was placed on a ventilator on Aug. 3.She remained on the ventilator until Saturday evening when a nurse found her unresponsive. She had suffered a massive brain bleed and was later pronounced dead.According to KHOU-TV in Houston, it was Fagan's lifelong dream to be a doctor."She fought for it," Fagan's sister, Natalie, said. "She fought hard. She studied hard. (KGTV) - Suspected drug smugglers were rescued by U.S. Coast Guard crews this month after their vessel erupted into flames before sinking.Crews from the Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations (AMO), the U.S. Navy ship USS Zephyr, and the Colombian Navy ship ARC "07 de Agosto" detected the high-speed vessel on April 7 in the eastern Pacific Ocean.As crews prepared to intercept the vessel, the suspected smugglers allegedly began abandoning their cargo and jumped from the boat as it caught fire.Crews rescued four suspected smugglers and spent 90 minutes extinguishing the flames."There was no doubt in our minds what needed to be done to salvage the evidence needed for a successful prosecution even if it meant laying Zephyr alongside a burning hull, with the intense heat and acrid smoke hindering our 90-minute firefight," Lt. Cmdr. Grant Greenwell, the commanding officer of the Zephyr, said.After putting out the fire, crews say they recovered about 1,080 pounds of cocaine. (KGTV) - Neighbors who live off a quiet Rancho Pe?asquitos road say they are fed up with crime, litter, and abandoned cars steps from their front doors.Danielle Salice, who lives in the area, says the region's high cost of living is keeping her from moving. "I'm paying good money to live in a place that's beautiful, San Diego, let alone owning my condo," she said. "But I'm not being able to use my neighborhood."Salice lives in a condo complex at the end of Azuega Street in Rancho Pe?asquitos. She and her neighbors are reporting drug paraphernalia, abandoned cars, and a series of car break-ins. On Friday, there were two piles of broken car glass in the road. One man who declined to give his name said his car was broken into last month, and his daughter's softball gear was stolen. Salice said it's an ongoing problem on the road. "As a single-family person, I don't feel safe walking on this street," she said. Here's the problem - Azuaga Street is a long straightaway largely hidden from view, just south of the 56. There are no homes on the final stretch of the road - one side has a retaining wall up a hill. The other is mostly brush. It ends at a condo complex called Terra Vista. "There's no lighting, and this is an easy place to hide," Salice said. Salice said her HOA has discussed adding a gate to the complex and a guard, but they are cost prohibitive.
