SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A young sea otter who was found stranded on a beach and deemed non-releasable has been given a new name. SeaWorld San Diego took in "Nova" the sea otter in March, where she has been thriving with other sea otters in the park's Otter Outlook habitat.Nova was found abandoned without a mother on a beach in Cambria, Calif., in March 2018. Monterey Bay Aquarium took her in and provided her care. There, she was also paired with an adult female otter to act as a surrogate mother.When the aquarium released her back into the wild about a year later, she was rescued once again and deemed non-releasable by the US Fish and Wildlife. Eventually, Nova was taken to SeaWorld, which is one of the few California facilities that rehabilitates and cares for southern otters. While the park is currently closed due to the coronavirus, SeaWorld says it intends to reopen on July 1 with new health guidance. 921

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Alpine residents are bracing for a Public Safety Power Shutoff, as SDG&E monitors the weather conditions.The National Weather Service issued a High Wind Warning Thursday, "winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 60 mph. Local gusts to 75 mph possible near the mountain ridge tops." The warning lasts through Friday afternoon.Neighbors in Alpine are always ready if a fire sparks, “we keep a go bag of important documents and stuff and uh three dogs at this point and we’d be able to take them with us, and we had to do that in the past too." Neighbor Steve Allison said. He's lived in Alpine for 20 years."Well we’ve chosen to evacuate four times, the last time we had no choice, we had to go. The fire burned within 40 feet of the house," he said he was thankful firefighters saved his home last year during the West Fire.Since the West Fire swept through, in July of 2018, he's made some changes to his home, "we have defensible space around our house, we have new vents in our attic they’re supposed to keep the embers out of the attic."SDG&E reports areas of Alpine, Descanso and Pine Valley are in the dark Thursday and won't get power back until Saturday evening at 6 p.m, due to the Public Safety Power Shutoff. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An Airbnb host says his condo was damaged by a guest who used a fake name to book the home.The host, who did not want to be identified because of the crimes committed, estimated nearly ,000 in damaged furniture and stolen belongings.He said the guest, who had recently created their profile and had no prior reviews, held a party in the unit.Damage included chipped furniture, rips on the couch, stains on the carpet and what appeared to be urine on the bed.The host also said that some of his property was stolen, including a watch and some of his medications. He said other items were also stolen, but could not reveal them because of the ongoing police investigation.“I still feel violated,” said the host, who reported the incident to police and Airbnb.He said Airbnb initially dragged their heels on helping reimburse him for all the damage, but on Thursday, finally offered to In a statement to 10News, an Airbnb spokesperson wrote, “We are supporting the host via our Million Host Guarantee and have suspended the guest’s account as we investigate this incident. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A small portion of San Diego State students will return to campus next week for limited in-person classes.The university says students who are taking in-person classes are required to be tested for COVID-19 at least every 14 days. This includes both students living on-campus and those taking in-person courses.Students and instructors on campus are also required to wear a facial covering at all times (with limited exceptions), maintain physical distancing, and have their temperatures checked daily.There will be two temperature check kiosks on campus and instructors will also have the ability to check a student's temperature using a non-contact infrared thermometer.Since the fall semester started, SDSU has reported 1,134 coronavirus cases among students, including 408 on-campus students and 726 off-campus students. Ten faculty or staff and 13 visitors have also reportedly tested positive.To combat off-campus cases from rising in the surrounding College Area, the school has enforced its COVID-19 student policy on students living off-campus as well. Students or organizations found in violation of SDSU's policies, like failing to wear face coverings or attending social gatherings, could face student organization sanctions and individual disciplinary action, which may include expulsion. 1328

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Amid ongoing dockless scooter injuries, Mayor Kevin Faulconer Thursday proposed new rules for the devices.The new rules would force companies that provide the dockless scooters to educate riders, provide data to the city, enforce speed limits and purchase permits.Riders would also be required to sign away any of the city’s legal liability should something happen.Speed limits would need to be enforced by the companies using “geofencing technology,” Faulconer said. Some of the most popular areas for the scooters, including the Pacific and Mission Beach boardwalks, would be areas required to have speed limits. The list below shows all the areas where speed limits would be enforced:  726
