(KGTV) -- Police are looking for three people who tried to steal an ATM from outside a Mexican restaurant in Chula Vista Tuesday morning.According to the Chula Vista police, at around 5 a.m., three men were seen ripping the machine from the ground outside the restaurant in the 2500 block of Main Street, near Broadway.The trio tried to load the ATM onto the back of a large flatbed truck, but it fell off. They struggled to get the machine back on the truck and eventually gave up.Witnesses told police they saw the three men run away down Main Street.Police say the ATM was heavily damaged, but it doesn’t seem like they got away any money. The truck was believed to be stolen.Police are hoping nearby surveillance video will help in the investigation. 782

(CNS) - Authorities Thursday announced a ,000 reward for information in connection with the January stabbing death of a teenage boy during a fight in Chula Vista.Devin Griffiths, 15, was at a birthday party in the 900 block of Maria Way when a fight between two other teens broke out around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 31, according to Chula Vista police.At one point during the fight, Griffiths -- who was not initially involved in the argument -- jumped in to help a friend who was being attacked by several young men, police said. They were all described as white or Hispanic and believed to be between 17 and 20 years old.The victim's family has pledged a ,000 reward, in addition to a ,000 reward from Crime Stoppers, for information that leads to an arrest in the case.Lee Griffiths said of his son's death, "My world was taken away. My heart is crushed."Griffiths added, "When I saw my son the hospital, both of his hands and knuckles were broken open, which tells me he fought these guys. And I'm very proud of him and angry with him at the same time."Police have been trying to interview witnesses and other attendees at the party. They hope the reward encourages more people to come forward, and they're also looking for cell phone or surveillance footage of the incident."I'm really hoping that somebody will come and do the right thing," said Griffiths. "I need justice for my son, Devin's friends need justice. Devin's friends need justice. (KGTV) - A South Bay mom says the dinner she ordered using a food delivery app never arrived, and the driver couldn't be tracked down."It was my second time using the app," said Melissa Stone.Last Sunday, when Stone's kids had a craving for burgers and fries, she signed into her Grubhub app and ordered an early dinner from Bull Chicks in Chula Vista. An hour passed, but there was no food."Went onto the app, checked the delivery status, and it said it was delivered," said Stone.Confused, she checked her front door but didn't see any deliveries. She called the restaurant. An employee told her her food had been picked up by the driver 15 minutes earlier. She asked for the driver's information and got a woman's name and number. Stone says she tried to contact the driver, but the number was disconnected."I'm upset and hangry at this point," said Stone.She says when complained to Grubhub, they didn't have any answers but gave her a refund."I think somebody was hungry, took my food and ate it," said Stone.Melissa posted the incident on Facebook and got several responses from local Grubhub customers with similar stories, including one involving a male driver who reportedly picked up the food but didn't deliver it."They never received their food," said Stone.And they may not be alone. According to a 2019 survey by US Foods, nearly 30% of drivers with food delivery apps, admit to snacking or stealing the food they're responsible for delivering. A Gruhhub spokesperson issued the following statement:"Our mission is to connect hungry diners with great, local restaurants. We always want our diners to have the best experience possible, and the vast majority of our 450,000 orders each day are completed without incident or complaints. But when things don’t go as planned, we appreciate hearing feedback and work hard to make it right.We looked into the two orders brought to our attention and found they are separate, isolated incidents. Both diners were helped by our customer care team and received refunds for the affected orders and promo codes for future orders. We did not find any evidence of misconduct by our drivers during either of the deliveries.Overall, we have zero tolerance for misconduct from our delivery partners, and we work to immediately resolve incidents. Our drivers sign a contract before partnering with us that makes it clear that misconduct is not permitted. (KGTV) - The City of Chula Vista is launching a new pedestrian safety initiative after seeing a sharp increase in fatal crashes last year.According to the Chula Vista Police Department, nine pedestrians were killed in 2017 on city streets. That’s up 125% from 2016.In the first three months of 2018 there have already been three fatal pedestrian crashes, a 200% increase from the same period last year. Police say it's the first time in four years they’ve had more than one pedestrian killed within the first quarter of the year.The map below shows those killed in auto-pedestrian crashes between January of 2017 to March of 2018. In an effort to combat the trend and educate the public, the city unveiled a new campaign on Thursday called “Stay Safe Chula Vista.”To kick off the program they have named April as “Pedestrian Safety Awareness Month.” The Chula Vista Police Department along with the Fire Department and Department of Traffic Engineering will be working together on enforcement and education.CVPD will have increased patrols targeting both drivers and pedestrians who violate traffic laws. Along with the ticket, violators may also relieve pamphlets with information on the “Stay Safe Chula Vista” campaign. Of the nine fatal collisions in 2017, CVPD said pedestrians were found to be at fault in seven of them.The announcement came a little over a month after a 90-year-old man was killed while crossing the street.RELATED: 90-year-old dies hit, killed by two cars in Chula Vista Police say the man was crossing East H Street when he wasn’t supposed to when he was struck and killed.Similarly, in January of 2018, a 94-year-old man was hit and killed on the 1500 block of Third Avenue.
