(KGTV) -- Dozens of migrants seeking asylum in the United States are being processed Tuesday afternoon, according to an attorney.Eight migrants were allowed in for processing Monday night followed by dozens more Tuesday afternoon and evening. The rest of the migrant caravan is waiting in Tijuana to be allowed in and processed. The attorney, who is working with the group of migrants, said members of the caravan were asked to choose among themselves who would be processed.MAP: Where is the migrant caravan from?Women and children were reportedly in the first groups of migrants selected Monday and Tuesday. An official with U.S. Customs and Border Protection said that, although this group of migrants has been gaining national attention, the process the group is going through is standard.As far as the process the migrants are going through, CBP said that individuals who don’t have proper travel documents and try to enter into the U.S. may be subject to expedited removal.PHOTOS: Migrant caravan makes way to U.S-Mexico borderThose in expedited removal who express fear of return are then referred to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.Migrants then go through a “fear interview” to determine whether or not they have a credible fear of persecution or torture.The San Ysidro border inspection facility can hold 300 people. At times, this has required us to limit the number of people we can bring in the port facility for processing at a given time, including in 2016 when an influx of Haitians arrived at the California border, and as recently as within the past six months. In recent days, San Ysidro has exceeded port capacity due to an increase in arrivals of undocumented persons making asylum claims or presenting complex cases. Accordingly, CBP has had to limit the number of new arrivals for processing. CBP will continue to work with its interagency partners at ICE to ensure continued management of persons presenting without documents and appropriate care and custody of all those in our facility,” the spokesperson said in part.Migrants with the caravan have made their trip to the U.S.-Mexico border from three different countries in Central America. (KGTV) - Southern California cities affected by the Thomas fire were evacuated Wednesday morning due to the threat of mudslides from an approaching storm.The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office issued a Recommended Evacuation Warning at 8 a.m. for the Thomas, Sherpa and Whittier burn areas in Santa Barbara, Goleta, Montecito, Summerland and Carpinteria.A National Weather Service report indicated the area may receive moderate to heavy rainfall from a storm arriving Thursday that may generate mud and debris flows.RELATED: Local crew saves family from Montecito?mudslideThere is a high risk for loss of life and property, the SBCSO said. SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) - Hundreds gathered at a park in San Ysidro in support of the migrant caravan just hours before border officials closed the border.A group called the San Diego Migrant and Refugee Coalition organized the Sunday rally that eventually turned into a march. About 600 people joined the coalition which is made up of 20 migrant support and social justice groups. The organizers say they disagree with the militarization of the border and want the migrants to know they are loved and welcome. The march ended peacefully at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.  606

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- Cell phone video reportedly taken Wednesday morning shows San Diego County Sheriff's deputies at a San Marcos home that's been at the center of an ongoing battle. When Team10 arrived, there was an eviction resolution notice taped to a window on the property. Neighbors tell us that they're thrilled the eviction process is finally underway. This is a story that Team10 has been following since May - when we spoke with a local hopeful home buyer, John Masnica. He says Julie Frisino and her family unlawfully moved into the house while Masnica was in the process of closing escrow on the bank-owned foreclosure. Wednesday, he told us, "She's just a deadbeat from a family of deadbeats that take advantage of the system." He went on to say, "I hope that now that they're out of this house that there aren't any other available houses for them to try to break into."Frisino took the situation to court, claiming she had rights to be there. This summer, a judge said the bank trustee, not Frisino, had rights to the home.Masnica and his wife are due with their fourth child. They hope to close escrow and move into the house by November. 1186
